2) The upgrades are too much of a grind, I agree they should either increase XP from battles or provide a passive XP supplement to help with the leveling. They need to do so while also fixing AI lord recruitment, otherwise fighting 60% recruit armies with your T5 troops would be pretty silly.
3) Until the issue is solved, the best solution I found it recruiting prisoners and defeating lords who recently defeated someone else and taking their prisoners into your party.
I never reload and it´s one heck of a pain staking process, I am making decent money but it takes forever to gather a new army.
This is also partially why we see the snowball effects, once a nation is down it´s knees it simply can´t recruit and massive armies just steamroll everything getting even stronger.

Atm leveling troops is indeed a chore and frankly until they make it better themselves, and give additional ways apart from slaughtering hundreds of hours of gameplay for a dozen soldiers that will just die in next battle, modding sounds like best solution. Plus then you can actually set it up yourself
