Does wearing a shield on your back give back protection?

my bad actually it doesn't.

There is an error message shield_on_back doesn't exist error.

looks like its supposed to at least reduce damage but its still not in the game.

I assumed it did from warband. but testing show its yet in this game.

Yea I have had a arrow strike me from behind. It was ironic, right in middle of spine, in the middle of my shield lol. If it's supposed to be a thing, which I believe it's, then it's not working yet. Give it time though!

No you were right, it works, the message you see is a missing string which should be saying something along the lines of "hit shield on the back". It's only missing text but the shield still blocks stuff.

I'm wondering if they have the intention of adding it, because it does recognize the shield on your back and makes the appropriate shield hit "thunk" noise when hit on your back, you just still take the damage.

Yea I still take damage too, will try and snag a shot of it if I can. I try and dodge arrows during my cav hit and runs so we'll see XD.

If it's not working fully right now, it will be. That's always been a viable way to get some extra protection. That's especially true when you're wheeling around the battle and there's some Horse Archer behind you that's only too happy to stick an arrow in your back. Or, a Javelin. Or a Lance...

It works, but like with most shield/projectile interaction, you can still be hit through the shield, albeit at significantly reduced damage. Usually, yes, a shield will block a projectile, but with lesser shields and stronger projectiles, they can still "pierce through" as it were.

just tested both arrows and melee weapons, within the arena and with bandits/loots.

no reduction from shield, you get a reduction but thats on your armor not the shield.
