This was intended as 80-90 sized caravans meant they were utterly immune to bandits. Now, if you want high profits from them - clear bandits out.
Hope this means they'll add in to the AI to actually do this themselves too
There is a econimic issue in Calradia. All price rise up. Very difficult to find things at a good price...
Do you have the same ?
Making the caravans get attacked is fine. Reducing the party size is not. I am not sure what the devs are thinking, if they are thinking, but this is not a viable answer.
Just remember, early access.
This is part of game balancing.
The dev's are working to a plan.
Post your observations in official TW forums for issues, or I believe they have steam threads for doing so also. :)
Issue:
A caravan cap to 30.
Possible solution:
Try to get a companion with the highest Scout skill that you can increase more when at your party.
For example: If the companion has 140 already max out (red colour), try to get the lower Scout companion that has not been max out (orange colour).
So you can level up more the Scout skill. Scout max skill is at 275 (at tier 5 at least to be useful).
Then deploy them as a caravan.
Also, there is no point to level up their Leadership skill hoping to increase the max troop cap.
However, you can lv it up to tier 5 only for the caravan to be useful.
Tier 1: Raise the Meek (more exp for tier 1-3 troops).
Tier 2: Staur Defender (better at defending when attack).
Tier 3: any choice you prefer (for governor), I would pick Gratitude.
Tier 4: Veterans Respect (tier 4-6 troops cheaper to pay).
Tier 5: Disciplinarian (to recruit/convert looters and bandits).
Tactics skill lv it up until tier 7 for escaping by leaving 50% troops behind.
Optional: Roguery skill, preferably at max lv 275, so you can recruit bandits.
Why? So your caravan has a higher chance of surviving. You will pay for their wages of course.
Optional: Medicine skill is for healing faster up to tier 4.
Tier 1: Self Medication.
Tier 2: Walk It Off.
Tier 3: Mobile Aid.
Tier 4: Best Medicine.
Why higher scout? So they can detect earlier if being targeted/nearby looters, bandits, or any other faction.
There is not much point to making the companion powerful as an individual since the attacking party is usually a lot stronger.
By doing a caravan it will increase the Trade skill companion assign to.
Then maybe recall them back to manually confirm the Trading skill when they back in the party. Then re-deploy them again as a caravan to maximized income.
The reason why they keep going over their limit (30 cap troops) is that when they being attacked,
they will keep the prisoner, and over time, they will recruit it just in case if the caravan is lower than 30.
Since you won't be able to catch up to it, it runs faster than you anyway or you too far away, so they need to think of how to manage the party cap somehow.
Assuming if they are more than 30 caps and decreasing over time, in map speed will slow down, and it will reduce the attack to them. Only at a certain point.
Of course, if the attacking party is more than the caravan party size at the time.
Or use Mod to increase it to 50 caps again or max to 90 cap renown lv6 at max:

To edit/add troops into your caravan, there are 2 ways.
1. Donate your troops.
2. Talk to your companion directly.
Option 1 Donation (limited):
After you pay to create the caravan, go to city menu, at the top where your main character profile are (click it, either brown/green colour),
then click on your companion that you assign your caravan into (You can't talk to them, the option is grey out).
Notice, after you click donate, you won't be able to get it back?
Before donating, try to use the right slider instead, that way you have more control, back and forth.
If you made a mistake, just click the reset button at the middle bottom.
Option 2 Inspect Troops (work as normal parties):
After you pay to create the caravan, go to city menu, "Go to the keep", then at the top it should show your companion profile (click it, either brown/green colour),
talk to your companion "Let me inspect your troops.".
Enjoy.
Note: It should work as well when your caravan is inside a castle/city as you.
Not sure why someone would spend time breaking the economy of the game while rogue exp doesn't work.
Please make the game work before breaking it more.
