There are several weights but one of the absolute biggest is that you have lands nearby already, so best you can do is engineer a war near your own lands, either taking fiefs bordering yours or if those are already in the hand of your faction hope that they get lost, then retake them.
Clanstatus and military power also count into your chances so having as many clanparties as strong as they can be does help. But in my experience having neighbouring fiefs is a very important factor.

There is also a certain factor balancing fiefs between clans, so since you have 3, if everybody else got only 1 that works against you. And if there is a fiefless clan its near certain they get served first if any new fief is conquered.

The biggest deciding factor I have seen is having no fiefs. Clans in a faction without fiefs are (almost) always top billing for newly acquired territory.

Location also plays a big role. Clans with nearby fiefs will be more weighted to getting new ones.

Clan Tier also matters. Higher tier gives an edge.

If you really want more:

1 - Give your current fiefs away. This will put you at high priority for the next one.

2 - Expand your territory in a way so you are the closest clan. Sturgia/Aserai territory is great for this, because of their map placement.

I would recommend not overdoing it, because trying to manage too many fiefs requires a lot of tedious work from you, AND your other clans in the faction are weaker because they have less territory and income.

If higher tier clans have fewer fiefs, they'll probably be offered fiefs first.

The last couple of times I played I had no trouble amassing large landholdings (6+) because I had gone out of my way to build up my charm, kept an eye out for opportunities to do quests for nobles who might vote on allocating new fiefs, and made a habit of playing games with as many clan members from voting clans as possible (which also helps build your charm).

Since my relationship with most lords is good, i think it was distance in my case. My town and castles are in Khuzait territory, but the last wars where on Aserai and Empire territories.

I didn't realize that distance is such a big factor.

Of course clan tier 4 is not super good atm. Just wondered why i never got even considered for getting new fiefs.

Seems only way to get a different town or location would be giving my well managed fiefs away and starting from scratch. I will consider the factors for a next playthrough.

Thanks for the advice.

I spent a good chunk of time reducing a faction to a couple of fiefs. I then joined them as a vassal - clan was Tier 6. As we expanded and reclaimed territory, I managed to snag two towns...and that was it. We took back all the old territory and even expanded beyond, and I still only had my two fiefs. Location is a big factor. Lower tier clans were scooping up a lot more territory because they were last to get fiefs when they had none (being lower tier), so they were at the border, and first pick to getting newly acquired fiefs. I didn't continue the run for too much longer, so I may have come up for votes again eventually.

Yea if you aware of that you can actually try to engineer things in your favour. My last playthrough I played an Asserai, joined the Western Empire and took lands in the Asserai-territories, since there was nobody else bordering those areas and I had joined rather late (clan tier 5 already and with a nice amount of cash to keep 2 companion parties in the field) I got handed pretty much everything they conquered there at first. I had 3 cities and 2 castles before they handed anything to another clan.
When that happened I waited for the next war with the Asserai and let them take that castle away, kept it defensive till there was peace.
Next war on another front I made sure the Clan that got awarded the asserai-castle before got a castle far away. The asserai-war after that I reconquered the castle and got it myself.
Went on like that until I had about half the Asserai territories as my fiefs.
(After that I used double war my liegelord declared on other fronts to declare independence).

You dont.

If you know what you're doing the problem you'll have is deciding how many fiefs you can afford to own and which ones to give back. Fixing up and garrisoning a fief can be expensive, and early on you may not be able to handle all the fiefs you can gobble up. The other thing you have to worry about is where the fiefs are relative to each other. Clumping them together in a coherent group is important, especially if you have any plans for going independent and surviving attacks from all sides.

Which brings us back to the topic of money. You need a warchest of about ten million to buy off all the armies that will gang bang you when you start your own kingdom, so if you bankrupt yourself setting up the first half dozen fiefs. you'll be out of luck.
