If you are a kingdom you must make peace through the diplomacy system. So, trying to talk to them will do nothing for you.
Sounds like you tried to peak too soon and got yer butt kicked for it. The AI does exactly what you would do, it recognises weakness and punishes it.
Best advice I've learned or seen posted. Learn the game the easier route of becoming a vassal, that way you have back up.
If you are going to go it alone, then have millions of denars in the bank before you take the plunge (3 - 4 million).
Personally. If I'm faction leader I focus gaining influence points. These are as important as money. If you have low influence then your lords will make dumb decisions that you can't prevent. Have high influence points and spend them on making everyone do what you want, not what they want.
With that in mind and in place
Try not to negotiate peace if it means you paying for it. At the very least accept a peace where no one pays. But the aim is to make them pay you, even if its a small/token amount.
Don't get hung up on owning properties. You will never keep them, unless you spend a fortune garrisoning them and upgrading them. Siege, take, loot, leave, give it away to whichever lord the game suggests.
And most importantly. Look at your diplomacy screen. It tells you the strength of your enemies army. Make this number your focus. Make that number lower before accepting peace. Castles, cities, caravans and workshops are nice. But imho that number IS the game. Get that number below 8000 and you will notice the quality of enemy armies has dropped. Get that number below 3000 and your enemy will struggle to put an army together because most of their parties are too small. At around 3000 you can switch focus to their cities and castles, because they are almost powerless to stop you. Take their cities and castles and they become extinct.
Then move on and do the same to the next faction.
