1H vs. 2H vs. Polearm Skill?
Doing campaign right now and held off adding points to the Vigor Attributes (1H / 2H / Polearm) as I am still not decided on what I want to do, as well as some confusion.

- For instance, weapons have either 1H or 2H or even options for both. With that I know that I should choose either 1H or 2H when allocating points.

- The confusing part for me starts with the Polearms because it also has 1H and 2H options. I don't know where to allocate points on. How do these points "help" when using polearms exactly?

TLDR: Does putting points on 1H/2H benefit Polearm class? And if it does, how does it compare to actually putting points into Polearm skill directly? For context, I only use polearms on horseback, else I'd rather fight with a sword or an axe when on foot.

As far as I'm aware the 1H and 2H does not affect polearm stats.

no, 1h/2h skills dont affect polearms (1h & 2h) in any way.

The above answers are correct with regard to skill points. But there is a difference in combat between one handed and two handed use with polearms.

Some pole arms have the ability to slash. In fact, I generally try to ONLY use pole arms which can slash. Those pole arms, however, still cannot slash if you use them one handed (with shield).

If you're not carrying a shield, a two handed pole arm capable of slashing will always be able to slash. But if you use a shield, it can only thrust.

To toggle between shield and not-shield if you're carrying a shield, use the mouse wheel toward you rather than the mouse wheel away. (Away switches weapons, toward you toggles shields)

A two handed axe has the ability to cleave through multiple opponents, but a slash from a pole arm has more reach.

Thus on horseback I like to use a slashing pole arms in the first stage of combat where I'm chasing down elusive cavalry, and then when I switch to the second phase where I'm fighting tightly packed groups of enemies I like to switch to the two handed axe.

If I could only carry one of the weapons (which some play throughs is the case), I prefer a good and long two handed axe. But in general I like to carry both two handed axe and two handed slashing polearm with ability to crouch (the crouch attacking being just for fun since it's not really useful in fights against many opponents).
I see. Then I must have misunderstood the part where 1H and 2H skills are suppose to affect Polearms, lol. Kinda weird that they had to separate "polearms" specifically, and not "axe" or "mace" and etc.. Hmm.

It is confusing. It gets even worse when one considers javelins use two different skills, throwing skill for range and pole arm for stabbing.

But yeah, to recap, two hander skill is not for pole arms. One hander skill is not for pole arms. Pole arms can be used one or two handed. *laughs* They should probably add tool tips to the skills.
