There are currently 45 banners available in Bannerlord, excluding the Dragon Banner which you can obtain by completing Assemble the Dragon Banner.
~ If you don’t assign a companion who wields a banner to a specific group of troops as their captain, the companion will wield the banner in combat themselves. This can reduce their effectiveness in battle... So don't go Banner nuts
Only give banners to a captain.
"troops" = foot soldiers only?
I thought "troops" = everyone in that formation (infantry,archer,mounted).
But what you guys are saying makes sense in terms of balance, but "troops" just meaning foot soldiers is a bit confusing to me.
The wording is misleading.
In this case, troop does not refer to every type of unit in your army.

But I think the thing about companions holding banners who are not captains may no longer be true. As I have not seen this happening in latest v1.2.0. But have seen in in early versions.
I have never found a reliable source, for example, Taleworlds post detailing exactly who can benefit from which banner. That is what I am looking for. Above you typed that Troop only refers to a certain unit type. Where does TW explain that?
To which units do Banner buffs apply When when entering Bandit hideouts is still unclear to me.
none of us are alone in finding this matter not exactly crystal clear, as a quick internet search can show.
Others have also wondered about this...

There are many curious questions unanswered about Banners.
It is not straightforward.
Questions I still have are;
1. if you add units to a bannered formation during battle, do they begin to also get buffed?
2. The banner is never visible on the captain if it is just him alone. Does that mean the banner is not working?

There must be at least 3 members in a bannered formation or otherwise you can not see it. Is it still working?
