Is the game worth it without mods?
^ title. Never played any M&B title before, so think of me as someone who's completely new to the genre of the game. I actually bought the game right now, but haven't found time to play it yet. I have to admit that it's still on the expensive side for me even if it's on sale.

So yeah, I was wondering how the game is without the mods (which I heard adds a lot). Is it still worth it for you guys? Else I'll refund early before 2 hours of trying it out.

If you like the combat, it's worth it. Nearly all the mods fall into the Quality of Life side.

For me, the reason I continue to play is mods, but the mods don't change the core aspect of what the game is.

I also never played any Mount and Blade game before. As such I did not start this game with any preconceived notions based on previous games.

As a new player to the series, I enjoy the game. It could use much more fleshing out, better diplomacy/economy etc. But I have never used a mod and have a tad over 4000 hours played.

Hmmm, I see. I mean, I don't like mods just because I'm too lazy to learn how to use them 😅

🤝🏻Same.. but anyway, 4k hours is a lot!! Maybe I'll give it a shot beyond just testing it for 2 hours.

I purchased the game 3 and a half years ago. That equates to an average of 3.2 hours a day. Not so much really.

No. With mods it can be made into an acceptable state where you can roleplay some fantasies and such and actually have a lot of fun. But it is tough to get there, and even so tons and tons of unresolved cheesy terrible superficial broken mechanics. But this is the game we have, there's not really any other contenders to this throne.

I have good fun in battles with my pure vanilla game. Other elements of the game are kind of 'wide as the ocean, deep as a puddle' as some have said.

I would try the game without mods first and see where you think the game is lacking, before deciding on any mods to use. That will also give modders more time to update for the latest game version too :P

Literally just a combat/battle simulator without mods, which is fine if you want to spend 5 hours running down 30 looters in hobo clothes with your 50 knights. Or you can enjoy trying to talk to NPCs with 5 identical dialogue options, which don't even work properly.

If you after 5 hours is still running down looters.. you are a TERRIBLE player... just saying.
Alright, some replies racked up so it's a bit difficult to reply to each one. But anyway thank you for the feedback! So from what I can infer here is that the vanilla game is perfectly fine if I just enjoy the combat 🤔 but outside that it, then it's lacking 😅 hmmm...

Bannerlord try to be a bit of everything but it isn't as "deep" as some players want it to be.

Combat and battles is where the game really shines. There is no game out there that offer the same experience at that size.

There is enough youtube videos about this game that show what it is about.

I did watch a couple of Youtube videos. It does seem interesting, though I'd have to try it out myself to see if it really gets me hooked. The only thing that's deterring me is the mention of "mods" being a recommended thing 😅 nothing against that, but I am too lazy to learn about that (can't be bothered).

I clocked over 2000 hours with no mods. Play the game without to start with. Don't slam in a bunch of mods right out of the door.

I see. Thanks for sharing your experience! I am also curious about Warband as I was thinking of using that game as a "gateway" since it's significantly cheaper 🤔

The game is fine without mods. There are things I would like to see, such as more interactions with other factions, being able to marry Rancid Gerta, and a pirate DLC, but it is quite playable as is.

I hear you there. I know there are mods that provide some of those things, but I just don't want to deal with the effort it takes to keep them running. Rancid Gerta will have to wait.

I have more hours that I should in it, but it tapered off a bit when BG3 came out.
