Is the Retreat broken?
I retired and passed on kingdom to 18 year old son. He died of old age two weeks later, he was also not able to marry or court anyone, as if he were still the original character. Is this a known bug? I don't have any recent saves, so now I'm really screwed.

I am very confused by what you posted.

You retired, assuming original character, and passed on your kingdom to your 18 year old son who died of old age 2 weeks later? During those 2 weeks he could not marry or court?

The retreat works fine. I just retired a character and passed the clan leadership to my sister.

What version are you in? Is it beta? What mods do you have installed? What mods have you uninstalled or disabled?

You should be able to pass leadership to any family member -- spouse, brothers, sister, in-laws, nieces and nephews, etc. You have none of those?

Seems like those 2 before me cant read. Op retired and started playing with his 18 year old heir. Said heir couldnt marry nor court with women as if it were still his previous character. After that the now 20 year old character died of old age.

It seems like a bug, you should inform in the TW forums.

I read quite well. My confusion is the 18 year old died of old age. By the way, where do you read he was 20 when he died? You may have misread that.

You apparently cannot read either. He said his 18-year-old son died two weeks later, not 2 year later.

18-year-olds do not die of old age.

This smacks of a mod gone south, which is why I asked him about versions and mods.

I'm thinking he has slammed in some mods that he's not talking about.

Or he's just trolling and made the whole thing up.

Yes, this is correct. I actually re-loaded from my last save and it was okay; I had saved before he died but after I retired my original character. The inability to court or marry was because the two ladies I was trying to marry were "not suitable for marriage", which I think means they are randomly generated into the clans with no lineage (they have no parents), so I guess that means they are commoners?

No mods ever, just vanilla. I'm not on the experimental branch so whatever latest patch was.

So you are probably in 1.2.8.

Am I reading correctly -- You do have a save after you retired but before the son died?

And you reloaded that save, and this time, the son did not die?

So apparently, the random number generator that killed him the first time let him live this time.

If so, you need to make the most of this do-over and get another heir lined up.

And if you've really never installed any mods, you might consider reporting the premature demise of the son.

Roger that. I do not recall ever seeing the not suitable for marriage text. But I am still playing the (now) old beta, 1.2.6. I do not want to upgrade yet as I have a game I am playing and posting to YouTube. Do not want to risk losing the save.

I have never seen that "not suitable for marriage" message, either, and I am in 1.2.8. This is why I thought it might be due to a mod.

Stevie_Lee, can you tell us more about that message? How and where did you get it? Encyclopedia? Talking to the lady? Talking to clan leader?

I know there are women for whom you cannot find a parent or clan leader to ask for her hand in marriage, but I've never seen that message.

Thanks.
