AVG anti virus give warning about watchdog.exe
I jujst turned on death & birth under mods and when I coinued fromn there I got a warning about virus detected in watchdog.exe.

Anyone else run into this?

I guess it is a false warning caused by their "Behaviour shield" (i.e. a program behaves suspiciously). I created an exception for it in AVG.

But I guess if an AV program quarantines it it might cause problöems witrh program starts. I see some people are reporting crashes when starting so this might be spmething to look into.

Have had similar problems with Paradox launcher with Stellaris.

What you don't find it odd that a game developer is snooping in your files and records meta data about x?

Anti-virus software are nothing but a pain and they are useless.
Windows has its own embedded Anti-virus and I've been using nothing but that for 8 years. Not a problem whatsoever.
And you couldn't have picked a worse Anti-virus. AVG is atrociously bad.

Sure is. Not sure what that file is doing. Maybe it checks files to see if you are running a cracked game or something. If it looks outside game folders then it is really bad though.

It is free though. I really hate all the popups etc about getting a payed version. Wouldn't use it if it wasn't free. Haven't looked into the built in AV. I remember it being pretty bad though but it might have been improved.

It's free and it sucks, just like everything that's free on the Net.
I have tried just about every Anti-virus since 1998. At one point Avast was good... then it started to suck like all the other ones.
And if you're concerned about Snooping, know that Anti-virus softwares are the best snoopers around.
Give Windows Security another try. It really is several notches up compared to the others. And it is already running with Windows so you get the added bonuses of it already being managed by Windows but you also get rid of another monkey on your back for free. That's worth it to me.

When I looked at Windows Defender was then it was only anti-spyware and forgotten about it since then and used AVG of old habit. But all those popups and stuff trying to get me to upgrade to a paid version is really getting at me. AVG has probably caused more problems than it has solved.

I googled about Windows security and it seems to be good enough. Time to get rid of AVG. Thanks for the advice!

Let windows do its thing, and occasionally scan with the free version of Malwarebytes. It is not intrusive in any way, and user friendly IMO.
