Other Games Like This?
I love the concept of Mount & Blade, my favorite was Viking Conquest, at least for its region, era, the whole setting of being a viking or a saxon, or scott... being able to build yourself up from a commoner to make yourself whatever you want to be.

I just had the catastrophic problem that the game is fundamentally flawed. You have to recruit armies over months, especially at the start, but other lords can get full armies back within a week. I had an army over 700 strong, half of them top tier heavy infantry. I tried to sweep all of Norway and make myself king of Norway, but I had to derp my way forward because the armies I defeated came back almost immediately. having land and castles isnt really worth, they dont pay out enough to justify having them. diplomacy with lords is horrid, nearly nonexistent... I have had situations where I had more money then I could spend, but not being able to get other people to work for me the way they should. ships only apply to they player, enemy lords dont have to build a fleet and maintain them, they just appear and disappear wherever...

I love the idea happening here, I just dont know how much I can stand replaying it. I am forced to save scum because you can have one bad battle that wipes out everything you did, and the last ten good battles you had dont mean anything. punishment and reward are not equal so why should i subject myself to this?

I would love to play a game with optimal player agency and creativity for how you build your power. even if its an older game or a janky 2D mess, its the agency and the sum of your choices that really matters to me.

if we are talking about space games starpoint gemini warlords is kind of similar in certain aspects.

Sands of Salzaar is a chinese game thats similar in many ways.

The X series (X4 Foundations being the newest) is a space sim thats similar in many ways. You start with nothing and build yourself into being whatever you want (empire, pirate gang, trade king, etc.). This series has a massive learning curve and its not really about conquering unless you use mods.

Battle Brothers is a mercenary company sim thats more of a tactics game, but its the same style of start with little and build up. Its a fairly brutal title thats very difficult.

All that being said there are various mods for Warband that are essentially their own games. VC is actually just a paid mod that wasn't even created by Taleworlds.

medieval dynasty is closer to bannerlord, but it's about peasants life, and less combat.

I have not played that game, but I have had it on my watch list for so long I do not remember putting it on there. That being typed, I got a notice 2 days ago I believe, they just launched Co-Op play for Medieval Dynasty. Up to 4 people can play together in a group.

Stay far away from Freeman Guerilla Warfare. It is absolute trash that was supposed to get literally reworked but the dev's abandoned it.

Starpoint Gemeni Warlords is pretty good if you like space stuff.

That is good game, I do enjoyed it long time ago. Oddly they don't make warlord 2, they just making starpoint gemeni 3 and not very popular as Warlord is (it's difference gameplay)

I think you are posting in the wrong game forum. Some of the things you type about are not even in this game.
I think the only think he mentioned that was wrong was Norway instead of Sturgia.

OP. You could always try the previous installment of this game, I don't think it had the same issues this one does. It's simply called Mount and Blade: Warband. (asssuming you didn't already know)

No there are several things which are simply not true/accurate. Not only is there no Norway, you cannot just make yourself a faction leader. Nor are there any ships in the game at all, period. Much less fleets of ships. You do not have to save scum battles, nor does it take months to replenish an army, "especially at the start". Nor does one battle wipe away the progress you have made up to that point. That is simply ludicrious.

If the op did not post in the wrong forum then they are playing a heavily modded game.

i gave that one an hour and it was just a fighter pilot game... you only get two hours to play a game before you can refund it and i wasnt seeing any elements of M&B in it so i refunded

that one if i recall gives you a day to live out a month... which is a horrid compression of time. thats a game meant for generational play, and gives you no time to just mess around and experiment. in M&B if i just want to run around and be a trader for a month i can, unless i have a fief to protect there is no reason why i cant. if you skip a day in dynasty you could lose your whole harvest for the year... not cool

You can change the season length to 30 days if you want

If Medival Dynasty and Bannerlord had a baby... and that baby got developed by rich loving developer parents...

One could but dream aahh...
Cantung Dec 15, 2023 @ 4:28pm
Oh and FYI
Medieval Dynasty developer made the very sensible choice of no modding until the final release.

And guess what... no complaints.

No idea what Taleworlds is thinking

thats just the beginning, later on you can pilot capital ships and with a DLC even enormous titan class ships, have your own fleets like you have your army in mount & blade and with that fleets you can conquer and defend starsectors.

that game is not for everyone but here is a nice rivew to get a feeling about it, the review is from the year the game released and there were several updates and DLC after that, but anyways i recommend to watch the video till the end and not stop at the section about the controles. :)

edit: BUT the game is not for everyone, i cant guarantee that you would like it if you would try again.

edit2: here is a longer video about it in which the video creator talks about fleet management and other stuff
