if your troops wouldnt use the ladders, there would be 3 X more units at the main-gate, cawse why defending both walls, if they are not attacked?
take the time that is needed to prepare a good attack on a good defended castle/town, to avoid loosing much troops. (or accept the heavy losses)
I would have.. but I would have had to fight two incoming armies first.. so I only had time to knock out their onagers and building a siege ram before it was too late.
But that pathing issue caused _huge_ unnecessary losses.
Afaik if there is a siege ram deployed they wont be interested in the ladders. If you go raise a ladder yourself, they should use it though.

Kinda hard to do when you´re lying on the ground unconscious.. I wouldn´t have seen this happening if I had not been in spectator mode.
