you then just copy an existing troop in the vanilla spnpccharacters.xml and paste it, then change the unit ID and add the new unit ID to the upgrade path of another vanilla unit.
you have your own new unit now.
after that just change the items in your new units equipment sets.
ideally you want to do this in a seperate mod module so that game updates dont overwrite your changes to the troop trees.
alternatively there are mods like my little warband which allows you to create and equip units ingame.

It seems TW is jealous by how great the modding community can make their game. it makes them look bad so i guess they purposely dont want you to be able to play with these mods anymore. why else would they release constant small mb SILENT patches that break all mods and do very little?
