You can see the benefits/drawbacks of each culture in the selection screen. In the game, when a ruling faction controls a town of a different culture, there is a loyalty debuff, making them harder to manage. In this sense, the Empire culture can be 'easy' in that the most towns have this culture, meaning it's easier to manage that area if you're also Empire culture.
Mods disable achievements. There are mods that turn them back on if you're so inclined.
When using mods, make sure they are compatible with the game version you are running. Follow installation instructions.
You can see their culture in the encyclopedia.
And you can check their culture before hiring them by right-clicking their portrait in the tavern.
Some of them wear headgear appropriate to their culture. Sturgians, for example, wear fur hats.
And they are color-coded. Sturgians wear blue clothes, Battanians green, etc.
All good stuff to know, thanks!
But I'm talking about an easier way to look at their culture after you already hired them, without having to look it up in the Encylopedia. It seems something that should just appear on their skills screen, or when you cycle through your companions and can see their assigned roles, why not just put their culture under there too? Or when trying to figure out who to govern, have their culture next to their name in the list of possible folks to assign, or have a star next to their name showing they're the same culture...
(Besides... isn't making presumptions based on appearances, taboo nowadays? lol)
I recruit companions for specific purposes, culture being one of them if I'm looking for a governor.
