how many in-game years does it usually take to conquer the whole map?
My faction ruler constantly accepts peace offer even though we were on a roll and pushing the enemies back...and then not fight anyone for months lol...

The key, in my experience is towns. When you have enough force/companion parties make an army with all 4 (or 5 with perk) companion parties. Choose the weakest faction bordering your faction. It is best if they have their back to the map edge like Vlandia for example. They can only be attacked from the "east".

Steamroll their towns. Ignore castles, enemy parties etc. Any enemy party capable of challenging you let them try to break your siege. Wipe them out, continue siege. *See note below.

Towns are the life blood of the game. The ai will be hampered by a lack of towns to enter while at war. If the enemy you are fighting is indeed bordered by the map edges they must travel through your territory to get to neutral towns. This has advantages as well. Another positive resulting from tactically picking your target faction is the distance they need to travel. This will drain the enemy army ai cohesion over a longer period of time. The further they need to travel the better.

*note* The enemy ai is generally only capable of creating 3 powerful armies. They will rampage around as long as you do not engage them. It may seem impossible but you must meet them for battle. Do whatever it takes to engage them. If you can beat that massive enemy army 3 times, you will have weakened them enough that the other ai lords of your faction can handle them. By this time the enemy will be fielding 95% recruits in any army they muster up.

That is your problem right there... Your faction rulers goals and agenda is not yours...

If you want to paint the map... You rule -)

fffff lol
I don't even know where to start on my own. I probably can't even conquer a city with my 200 solders, let alone holding it while capturing new cities.

yeah I'm gonna go watch some guide then on how to do it, but honestly for my first full playthrough sounds too daunting XD

It's mostly about recruiting strong clans to your side. Make sure they have enough fiefs to fund their soldiers, and they will go a long way to conquering the map for you.

Has anyone ever completed the game serving an AI ruler?
Curious :steamhappy:

I watched a video where they left the game running and eventually an AI faction conquered the whole map. So it's actually possbile, forgot how long it took though.

It is a product of how the AI evaluates comparative strength. If you want to avoid it then focus more on taking fiefs and less on defeating/capturing enemy lords.

ok thanks for the tip. I never even tried taking on fiefs so I need to check how that works.
Strength wise, our faction was 6000 and the enemy was reduced to 2400, so it made no sense to me we wouldn't just conquer them with only 4 cities left and instead allow them to live on.

Thats because you apply a total war type logic:)

"we can wipe them off the face of the earth"

The AI thinks in terms of

"Hey, we can get a good peace deal now"

As a very general rule. Taking fiefs will extend a war whereas destroying armies will shorthen one. So, if you want to capture more you need to focus more on the former and avoid overdoing the latter.
