If all 10 are hitting one guy at the same time, that's rather impressive the linebreaker doesn't go down.
I normally play very ranged heavy. When I play Sturgia I play infantry heavy with archers and cavalry just to round out the force, not to be the heavy hitters.
It also means a change in tactics. Normally, when I am ranged and cavalry heavy I shield wall and let the ranged units do their work. As the enemy infantry approaches I send the cav around the side and into their rear.
When I play as Sturgia the goal is to get your infantry into contact with the enemy as fast as possible. The ranged units are just to keep the enemy honest and the cav is to flank their ranged units and hit them from the rear.
A nice formation of Heavy Spearmen and Heavy Axemen (60/40%) with the appropriate perks/Capt will absolutely stop a cavalry charge in its tracks and soak up ranged fire.
Also, It does seem to me the Sturgian Shield Wall is better than other factions. Perhaps that is just a perception and not a reality.
