Weight …..
Hey guys, just started the game and wanted to build myself up as a blacksmith so I hired 6 infantry men to keep me safe on the roads and started my master smith journey. My carry weight was around 800 I think. I started making good money and I wanted to start doing some quests and hunting down bandits so I fired my infantry and hired 16 cavalry, I then bought 14 horses that I thought would help with carry weight. My weight limit has gone down to 750 and we’re a very very slow caravan …

What’s the trick? How can I get my weight limit up? And speed up? I thought having extra horses would help and my entire party is on horseback. :)

Bottom right info bar is 2 tiered. There is a second tier if you press the triangle icon. Once you do that you will see Party Speed icon. First on new row.

Hoover mouse over to see detailed info on speed.

Note: some horses increase speed and some are only for cargo. When you hoover your mouse over a horse there are icons. A horse for cargo has a "goods" icon with a + sign. This indicates it increases your carrying capacity. A horse to increase speed has a horse head icon with a +.

I believe the current formula is 1.5 horses per troops.

Thanks, I know I’m over encumbered by about 1k. (Way too many bars) I think I’ll double check my horses. Hopefully I can buy 10 pack horses and solve this issue until I work my way through these bars.

Thank you for the tip, this is probably what I have done wrong :)

Mules are the best for cargo I think each one carries like 1k

Mules and sumpters carry the same weight. I just checked.

Rules of thumb -- Each mounted unit can lead a Tier 0 pack animal (sumpter, mule etc), and each foot unit can lead a T0pack animal and ride a Tier 1 or greater riding horse (steppe horse, nahawashi, Battanian hobby, etc) without incurring a herd penalty.

More than those, you get a herd penalty.

Don't forget -- pigs and sheep and cows count against herd penalty just like too many horses.

That's helpful! So in sumpter VS mule is either one better or use for the purpose of hauling a bunch of cargo?

I usually do 4-5 "escort caravan" quests, they provide enough carry horses to last a while. No mules as rewards, just sumpter horses from those quests which I prefer, the latter is in my imagination ... preferring horses because they are faster, probably not in the game. I don´t really think it matters.

Same capacity for sumpter, mule, work horse, saddle horse. Mine can carry 116 lbs, but I have a perk that increases capacity. I believe without the perk, they carry 100.

Riding horses only carry about 25 pounds, They don't get the perk because it is for pack animals only.

T0 pack camels carry same as sumpters and mules, but they cost 2 to 3 times as much, so no reason to get them except for role play or trading. T1 camels carry same as T1 horses -- only about 25 pounds.
