You would think that if it is that easy, there would be half a dozen or so by now.
Because people who don't really know better will always say something is EASY. More so if they just repeat talking points of what people said before. Someone said it was easy, so it must be..
Just as the "TW should leavse it to modders to fix the game"... Over a decade later you have people in the support forum for Warband complain about issues and crashes.. You telling me the modders haven't fixed all this yet? What would be the result for Bannerlord if leasve it to modders to fix? Ponders..
The main issue is pausing. The game pauses a LOT. How would that be handled with multiple players? Host controls? What about battles? The world pauses when the player goes into battle.
I suppose a workaround could be additional players don't get to wander the map, just fight in battles. That doesn't sound like too much fun because you have to wait for battles to play, and sometimes they are few and far between.
As for battles surely they could continue in real time?
If not, flat out pausing the entire map and potentially giving the other, waiting players a choice prompt to join the battle as one of the player's troops.
Anything goes really, they don't have to make it perfect right off the bat, but i too am surprised to see the lack of any coop mods after such a long time.
Honestly when i saw that open world multiplayer campaign mod roll out i had high hopes for coop rolling out soon as well.
Only way to make it co-op friendly would be to have some sortof turn based system that Total War have for multiplayer. And frankly that is quite tedious. Someone can spend a long time in a battle and that wouldn't mix very well with time progress in the world. And those you play with would find it boring fast if they had to sit waiting for you to do battles, bandit hidouts, picking your nose, whatever. Lets face it, the game is not made for co-op in mind, Find a game that is, and play with your friends.
I get my 'Me want coop wit mah frends' fix playing Baldur's Gate 3. It works quite well, as did BG 1 and 2.
(Conceptually speaking, i imagine actually pulling these systems off is hard)
All of my playtime in warband and bannerlord has been 90% multiplayer, on warband part of it could be classed as co-op (full invasion, Crpg PvE).
Obviously those are just battle sequences but there are multiple ways to creatively lessen the tediousness of a full-pause for anyone not doing an action.
It's not ideal, but it's a very fun idea.
Rimworld never seemed like a co-op friendly game either but playing it in co-op was a great experience after all.
Now you just have to make it then.. Should be easy enough? Everyone says so -)
I play mostly Stellaris, 7d, Empyrion, some Total War with friends. Not done Baldurs Gate, but done some DOS2. CK3 did fall short, as emotions ran to high when put a bastard in my friends waifu, hehe..
I sincerely doubt that online campaign mod was easy as well.
This is far better than Persistent Empires honestly, the community of P.E is wild and even the staff members seems so strict on rules and guidelines that it makes it extremely boring now already.
Bannerlord Online sort of gives you that singleplayer with multiplayer experience seamlessly, so it should be right up your alley, in terms of co-op at least.
Not sure how far in development they had gone with Bannerlord Online, but i am sure it is pretty active to this day.
I personally had played it awhile back and joined a lot of arena fights just to get some gold in the game, that was when it was still pretty early in development, but i'm planning to return to it myself, since P.E feels nothing like what Persistent World was anymore.
I had a lot more freedom in P.W
Now everyone is chained to strict rules.
Bannerlord Online is definitely a must play for sure, you get a lot more freedom and the community is more accepting, there aren't any crazy rules/guidelines either.
