Why Even Use More Expensive/Heavier Armor? Doesn't Seem Worth.
I've noticed that with armor, the higher the level of the armor the better the protection overall of course, but also the heavier it is. And something the jump is huge, like the lvl 4 tunic I have weighing about 8 pounds and the level 6 weighing 24 pounds (16 more!).

I have at least level 4 armor on everything for myself, but I already feel so slow in battle. How could I possibly get heavier armor when I'm already going slow? Is there any point really to heavier/more expensive armor?

If you on foot, get your athletics up. Get perks such as morning excercise and form fitting armor. On horse back it doesn't matter much.

The difference in armor value is huge, especially at the high end. With a decent set of high end armor (preferably stuff with lordly or legendary affix) you'll often take only single digits damage from sword swings that would knock out half your HP in early game rags.

Unfortunately is the athletics with 1.2 is broken somehow.
It was easy possible to outcome each enemy if your have a high athletics skill former.
Nowdays even unskilled peasatns and bowmen with low athletics are able to catch you and hit you, doesnt matter how high is your athletics and how light is your armor.

Some armors in the higher tiers weigh significantly less than others. Also, the "Form Fitting Armor" perk reduces your armor's weight by 15%.

As you level up and get stronger the weight doesn't matter as much. But also blunt and piercing damage got nerfed because some people couldn't handle it so the super heavy armor isn't as necessary as it once was

That is complete nonsense. Clearly you have never had a high athletic skill before.
