Guess it makes sense. I finally played a trader in the last weeks and got the skill to 300 the old grindy way. Of course they'd make it easier a week after I could have used that :)
This is the way.
Beta branch. No mods.
I had not engaged in ANY trading until later in game other than buying food and selling loot, so my Trade skill was about at 11, but I have 7 points in Social.
I had some change in my pocket and went to Quyaz, and bought all 3 workshops (2 oil and 1 silver).
I was going to just keep one of them as Oil and change the other 2 to smithy/wood workshop, then sell, but I decided instead to just go and take advantage of the lack of natural resources, so I brought in a few hundred iron and silver ore and deposited them in the warehouse, and set the workshops to draw materials from the warehouse.
I left it to run and went up to Vlandia to hunt some bandits, and as I was traveling I got about a half dozen Trade skill increase notifications by the time I hit Galend.
Havnt played around with workshops since... like forever
Thank you for the details. I am also playing beta but have not noticed this. I have 19 in trade skill. Which is what I have had since start. It is now day 1847, I have 6 workshops running. Have had them for several years. I am depositing items in warehouses and have them set to draw from there.
To add as much detail as I can, I am leader of the Sturgians. I currently have only 5 workshops due to being in war and losing 2 just before I am typing this. There are two workshops in Revyl and 3 in Omor. I am depositing Flax and Hides in Revyl as the workshops are Linen and Tannery. Each one has a daily profit of around 300 denars.
Unfortunately, so far I have seen no increase in trade. As I am not in red yet I will keep looking.
Perhaps it only works if the workshop doesnt have a village source of material available and you have to bring the supplies yourself. I believe thats what he said he was doing. At least for one of them. Something worth testing out, since people genrally only set a workshop if there is a village source around.
One thing I will say, this game has an over abundance of raw silk, which makes velvet workshops not very good.
Interesting observation. I agree, definitely worth testing. I'll give it a shot.
Actually there are. It has a village that makes cows nearby (From the castle) and there are flax villages near omor that likely would have some making its way to revyl
