Why is the modding scene so bare-bones still?
Multiplayer is pretty dead, which is unfortunate. There are some mods that make the single player much better but no mods quite like Warband. I know Warbands been out MUCH longer, and it’s most likely easier to mod since it’s older, but we’ve had access to Bannerlord for like what, 2-3 years now, and almost none of the big mods have really appeared except Full Invasion 3 (which doesn’t really have a leg to stand on compared to Full Invasion 2). Is Taleworlds like not helping out the mod community at all? There are a lot of things I like about Bannerlord, like the increased emphasis on trade and things like that, but the world feels kinda lifeless in character interactions and a lot of other things. I just would have thought we would have a lot more available by now, at least in terms of mods. Thoughts? Also thanks for tolerating my rant, just realized this is a really big paragraph yikes.

I have to admit I agree, I look at workshop and there are mods but none even comparable to Warband mods. Should I just get the GOG version instead of waiting for Steam sale? I of course lose modability with that choice

Many mods are not on the Steam workshop but are hosted elsewhere, mostly Nexus.

Because every update totally destroys the mods

Might as well go GOG as your likely going to need to use nexus for up to date mods.

well, a lot of modders have simply lost interest in the game. After the initial release in EA, a lot of people were enthusiastic about modding the game, the same as in Warband, but seeing their work literally destroyed with each update, they have lost interest in the course of time. It's a lot of work to continually update the code, given the fact that TW hasn't cared at all to provide a stable framework. Just to give an example, a modder has created and released a tournament mod, inspired by the one included in the Floris mod. It was awesome, made the tournament so much better. After having to update it counteless times, because each update broke it, he simply left and abandonned this awesome piece of work in which he has invested a lof time and effort. I've tried and updated the code for a time, up to the point where the modding interface was so radically changed, used methods simply removed, that I found no way to make it work anymore. I'm not an experienced programmer and have spent a lot of time trying to fix it. Anyway, the result is a lot of work for an amazing mod wasted and the mod abandoned. It's still available on nexus, but it doesn't work. Why expect people to spend a lot of time in modding if TW doesn't care ate all to provide a stable framework?

I like it when people who actually mod respond to such, than people who just have their opinions.

nexus > workshop for mods, so go for gog

Most likely because barely anyone wants to invest time to mod a game that in itself seems to be way less popular than its predecessor.

Big total conversion mods usually take years to make.

There are quite a few of them in the works at the moment, I recommend taking a look at ModDB for this matter

Modders are waiting for the game to be done, ironically about a year ago maybe more they were like GIVE US WORKSHOP AND WE WILL FINISH THE GAME or COME OUT OF EA AND WE WILL MAKE ALL THE MODS. Surprisingly (not really) that has not been the case. I'm sure eventually we will have more mods but because the devs rushed some features to make modding easier and more possible the modding scene kind of went up then back down. The lesson here is that its always better to take your time and release a finished product rather than rush something for someone elses ideas

Let's lay the blame where it really goes -- Because (1) Lazy mod devs do not maintain their mods in a timely fashion, and (2) Lazy users do not turn off auto updates when they install their mods.

To be fair it was more people claiming that once workshop was in place modders would fix everything and bring xmas every day. It wasn't so much modders itself that said this. Just as you have people state you can do x, y and z so easy, it take no effort and time, yada yada yada..
Okay I think one thing too is the difficulty scaling for modern games. It was very much easier to learn how to mod and add stuff to warband than it is to create custom assets for bannerlord. Another factor I think is the corporate death of the modding community as a whole. There's very little support for it from a business perspective for some reason I can't explain i think it is purely insanity actually mods sell more copies.

Do you have any market research or other statistics to back up that assertion, or is this just something that you would very much like to be true.
