ahhhh yes, the old nerf/fix vs. learn 2 play. :)
In this case, it's a if you can;'t beat em, join em, which is the beauty of MBII. I play Sturgia, but all my archers are Fians, cause, yeah, they're really good....darn hard for a Sturgian to recruit though (trade off).
Infantry seems to be moving much faster with shields raised as well. Closing in on archers much faster than used too. The fians work very well in close combat though.
Maybe should read more carefully -) It applies only to auto battles.
Reworked the Auto Battle Calculation system.
Mission and terrain types now provide bonuses or penalties for attackers and defenders.
For example, an attacking horse archer on flat terrain now has a large bonus but if you throw him into the forest that converts into a large penalty. Defending archers do great in a siege while attacking ones receive a penalty and so on.
Perks of the Army/Party leader that have a Captain effect now also give a bonus to all the troops under their command. A tier is determined for each of these perks and those are then counted together. Tier 1-3 gives a bonus of 1%, tier 4-6 of 2%, tier 7-8 of 3%, and tier 9+ of 6%.
and banners in beta 1.21 give 30% movement-speed for infantry. this seems to be a bug, they run like horses.
The banner that give 30% damage vs mounted units... Give that to your fians and watch Vlandia and Empire cav cry salty tears -)
Do you have the level 250 medicine perk Minster of Health? That is great and will make them even tougher.

Step 1: Recruit Battanian Fian Champions
Step 2: Get into a war with everyone.
Step 3: Find a nice cozy high walled town to sit in.
Step 4: Watch as waves of armies smash upon your walls and get culled by your Fian Champions.
Step 5: Sell loot/donate for xp and sell 100s/1000s of prisoners for 10000s/100,000s of denar
Step 6: Sweep across the continent as you drink the tears of your fallen enemies.
Step 7: Extort large settlement monies and recruit more Fian Champions during peacetime.
Step 8: Go back to step 2.
My current game is all fians, nothing else. As you can see in the above picture I never ride a horse. I have zero infantry or cavalry in my party. Been going well so far.
