Obsurd exaggeration.

So first off. It is more important that your caravans have riding and scouting as your perks to avoid getting destroyed.

The can move quicker and see enemies from further away.

2. It also depends on the area the caravan is in. If its oversaturated with goods or too war torn it wont make money which leads to...

3. If your a merc, and a kingdom declares war on you, check and see if your caravan is in their territory. If it is then leave kingdom immediately or your caravan will get attacked.

Ok, also realize that caravan profits under this economy will fluctuate.

Finally caravans and workshops are not going to make you rich. They are there so you "don't lose money" allowing you to field a bigger, better force.

I can offer tips that might help make money

How so?

Caravans don't last very long in times of war, so the battle fanbois see them as useless.

But if you don't have to be out there kicking ass and taking names all the time, caravans can make good money. You can, indeed, get as much as 1500 or more a day.

Hubris is right -- Riding and scouting are more important than trade. They'll develop the trade. (Hubris is right about all that other ♥♥♥♥, too.)

Caravans don't make no money because they do make money. It might not be a ton but its a nearly limitless amount of free income. Make sure their scouting and riding is as high as possible to avoid ambush and they should live for many years

Not really, though it is probably more accurate to describe them as a playstile choice.

To quote yourself, caravans and workshops are not going to make you rich.

War, on the other hand, can make you rich. And war just tend to not mix well with caravans and workshops.

Caravans and Workshops are a great way to supplement your income, but their payout is always going to be low compared to battle loot. Caravans and Workshops require very little investment from the player - time and effort - so the reward should be on a level to match that low risk.

I would like to see caravans be smarter with their routes - not running through active war zones and all.

Lol what? You dont understand risk. Caravans are the highest risk income in the game, and offer the lowest returns. Its completely backwards. Caravans very often get captured by enemy troops. Workshops less so, since that requires a successful siege.

War or combat is the least risky and most profitable option, atleast if you dont count the near cheating like returns of crafting (no idea if they have fixed this, I havent played in years). As long as you pick your fights that is.

Long as you're not engaged in an active war, Caravans will generate a decent amount of income. Good enough for you to save some denars to buy & run workshops. Workshops will fare better during wartime but can be just as bad for those also depending on their outputs and how the market is affected by the on going wars across the realm.

Scouting > Riding > Tactics > Trade make sure these are high up on the companion you want to trade it also depends on the economy and market there are times where profit is low and some when it is high usually when there is alot of war going on is when i make the most money as towns need to be resupplied food after sieges usually getting between 700-1300 denars a day and the lowest 150
