What do these icons mean?
Hate to keep asking tutorial questions but I feel like I either missed a big tooltip somewhere or this game doesn't explain everything very well. What are these five yellow mixer-looking icons underneath the Sea Raider hideout?

Each icon represents a party in the location. So there is 5 parties inside that hideout :)

I would have assumed I'd find a ton of loot after I wiped it out, but it was rather barebones. Is that captured parties or occupying parties? They did have a lot of caravan prisoners in the camp, but that was about it.

Occupying parties.

If you want more and better loot from fights, you gotta up your Roguery skill.

One trick you should know about those parties, though, is that if you have a "need help with brigands" quest from a nearby village, they count towards completing that quest.

Sometimes, especially in early game after I spot a bandit base, I go to villages to always check for "Bandit base near" quest, but if they're asking me to get rid of say 3-4 bandit parties and I see that the bandit base has that many parties inside it, it's kinda like 2 birds one stone situation.

Bandits never carry allot of loot, if you want / need loot you need to fight lords.

This is a solid tip indeed. The towns and villages near a bandit camp can give quests you need to wipe out the camp. You can combine 1 quest from the villages and 1 quest from a nearby town. It gives good xp and 6k cash

I've been doing this, but Sea Raiders do have decent stuff to sell in the early game and farming Sea Raiders was how I started pretty much every single one of my games on M&B Warband. Plus their armor is fairly decent for starting stuff.

I'm still in the meandering stage of this game. Just trying to learn the new mechanics and make a name for myself before I try to take down a city by myself.

If you got a mission that requires you to defeat 5 bandits, you can find a hideout and attack it.
If said hideout has 5 parties(5 icons) it will count each party as separate so you can complete the mission fast.

I beat you to that tip by about 10 hours... :steamhappy:

You can also get the quest for manual laborers, and if you use the right troops you can easily rake in 15+ prisoners every hideout. And yes, the roguery skill (especially in 1.2) can lead to some incredibly good loot drops.

Does having a companion with high Roguery skill work instead of my player having a high Roguery skill? I also accidentally set my companion with the highest Roguery stat as a caravan leader so I haven't figured out how to get her back and replace her with someone else - especially since she barely makes any money (despite having a decent Trade level).

No, companion Roguery skill has no effect.

You can change the caravan leader from Clan screen, party tab. Click on the caravan, and there's an icon next to the companions name.

Caravans should make decent money, better than most workshops, but it's more sporadic.

RE: the companion skills. The only time a companion's skills apply when you are the party leader is if the skill has the Personal or Party Member tag, or if that companion is assigned to the party role that the skill is tagged for (Scout, Surgeon, Quartermaster, or Engineer), or if it's a Captain skill, in which case it only applies to the units in their squad.

Thanks a lot. I swapped my Rogue out for someone else and the profits have increased since then. Could have just been a coincidence but with just two caravans and a party of around 100 elite units, I can usually break even or see a very small profit. Occasionally I have to pay a few hundred gold, but nothing too big.
