One of my Companions literally "disappeared in 1087 at the age of 25".
WTAF?

I have several family members as well as companions in main party. It'd been several turns I wasn't paying that close attention. I randomly checked family tree after hiring 2 new companions and noticed one of my companions is grey'd out and listed as dead!???

The thing is, I have death disabled. In his bio in the Encyclopedia is says "he disappeared at the age of 25. He was reputed to be decent and kind". Relation: 12 so no negative relations.

He was IN MY MAIN PARTY and has NEVER been assigned to a mission, party or caravan and I'm about 99.999% sure he didn't die in battle. There's a system message isn't there if a companion dies? Plus as stated, i have death disabled.

Is this some new mechanic?

Did you dismiss him thinking you could get him back later? ? If you dismiss a companion, they are as good as dead. You cannot get him back.

No most certainly not. I've been playing Mount and Blade since Warband and played Bannerlord 2 religiously in 2020 so I'm familiar with what dismissing someone does. I haven't had a private chat with this particular missing character in quite some time. Like years prior to him becoming missing today.

Yes, wanderers seem to randomly disappear and it can happen to any of them regardless of whether they are hired, unhired or even given lordship. It happened to a whole bunch of mine so far.

If you're sure you didn't let him go, then are you now using or have you ever downloaded mods?

If yes, then get to scrubbing your game.

If no, then you should probably toddle over to the Tech Support subforum or YW's site and report the bug.

I had this same crap happen to me also....I reloaded a save from right before it happened and it happened on the same day again no matter how many times I reloaded and tried to keep it from happening....it's like the game has a set timeline for companion/wanderer deaths which makes trying to build a companion the way you want them futile now.

Did it happen in 1087 by chance? That's when my guy disappeared.

I will have to dig for the save and find out but it isn't just one wanderer.....when it happens it's quit a few. I believe it's the games way of balancing out new wanderers but it sucks.

Did hiring the other two companions breach your companion limit? If yes, that would have induced the game to make a randomly selected companion disappear.

I turned a few companions into nobles by giving them fiefs, these companions seem to disappear randomly.

How would he have hired past his limit? Have you personally seen this happen or are you just throwing suggestions out there?
Iskar Mar 14, 2023 @ 8:55am
There are mods like Distinguished Service that make the limit ignorable for technical reasons.

I am amused by the Alzheimer's that they usually suffer from so that they end up dissapearing every two by three :crtstressed:

It has to do with your companion's traits. I think some heroes have cruelty trait or something and if you keep taking fiefs without pillaging (granting mercy), your companion will just leave Calraida forever.

They usually warn you though🤔

I'm pretty sure this is a bug. I'm not running any mods and not even a year into a new game, most discovered wanderers are grayed out. I never hired them, just discovered them in a tavern. From the comments here, seems like I'm lucky this hasn't happened yet to the companions I've actually hired.

And the campaign map screen is constantly scrolling messages of heroes disappearing.
