Tactics works extremely well on companions, if they are leading a party themselves as well it bolsters their army strength
Scouting is probably best left to a companion
All social skills should be dedicated to yourself as many of them are party/clan leader perks.
Intelligence skills have a good mix of things that only work for companions(lots of government skills) and only yourself (party leader/personal skills) but most should be getting medicine up to 50 for the 30% and flat 10 HP recovery effects after a battle, really helps keep them as contributors
I've seen this sentiment before and don't really understand it. Isn't the keen sight/mounted patrols combo insanely powerful for wars?
Yes, I consider scouting to be the best skill in the game. if you're playing for the conquest and battles. Especially now with the added pointless grind. It really improves the pace of the game when you can quickly catch almost every party in the game. Nothing else cuts down on the grind near as much as speed and sight.
For purpose of clarity what you are talking about are called party roles and really it's just a matter of preference. Personally, I usually keep all 4 because it's the simplest option of the relatively equal options. I always take scouting and build it up fast.
edit - I was just playing and counted the number of party leader perks I take in the scout skill tree and there were 8, including the excellent Keen Sight, another good reason to keep scouting.
