WHY the hell cant troops walk backwards facing enemies with their shields???
that is such a glaring issue

Yeah, specially if you give them an order to focus on a direction.

Formation system seem to be overall broken atm.

If a shield is on a troop's back, it doesn't stop any attacks. It functionally dissappears, though it is still visible. One solution might be to make the shield actually work on the back. That way they could turn around to run away, but still gain some protection from arrows or attacks coming from behind.

I think the op is not referring to running away or retreating. I believe op refers to moving or repositioning a formation of units. For example when you need to move a squad of infantry instead of moving as a formation and backing with shields raised they turn their back to the enemy.

Is that true? I remember an arrow blocked by my shield on the back before, maybe it was Brytenwalda. But that was one of the reasons why I equip 2 shields in practice fights. Don't want that sneaky arrow to end you.


But I do agree, in Brytenwalda they had this done, if they need the code, just ask the dev team there.
