The Campaign is Actually Good
I hear some of you casting shade on the campaign. I figure you either have poor tastes or didn't actually bother to explore it. The overall structure is almost perfect for a game of this sort. The writing is fantastic, and the basic sequence is good. Only real "deficiency" is that the pace is a bit hard for us 21st century ADHD-junkies to cope with.

i think, the most player like the campaign (story, quests).
but only till your banner is complete.

the toturial is bad (?), cawse you "lern fighting", thats all, and the most simple/easy part of the game. more important would be a toturial about map-movement-speed or siege.

edit: the main-quest / story isnt that important in a open-world-sandbox game.

mhm, wait until you will do conspiracy all over the map, then come back and comment again.

Conspiracy quest is rly bad. You only run over the map or one half of the map will be your enemy. Game dont inform you whats happen before you start conspiracy quest and the best option is wait how long you want with use banner(max around 1500 in game days). Thats reason why most of players abonded story mode.

"writing is fantastic" I seriously think you need to read and consume quality artwork, because the writing in this game is anything but good. Oh and play the conspiracy quest, you'll lose your last remaining 2 braincells.

and what is and what isn't "quality artwork" and who may determine it? could it be that it's just a matter of "taste" wich is different for everybody?

hmmmm no nonsense, that can't be it........

Personal tastes do not determine what is a quality artwork and what is not, a quality artwork is objectively good. And that comment isnt directed to you but to OP.

i can see why they added the conspiracy quest (to prevent a death stack that can roll the entire game), but yea the whole quest feels more annoying than interesting

excatly! some vomit in piss sink displayed in art gallery is not good artwork in the slightest and that is not determined by taste or viewpoint.

still getting nightmare when I get 6 vs 1, luckily I have finished off the Khuzaits, if I have just let the khuzaits earlier I may have lost...ending the conspiracy instantly everyone declare war on you instead...bloody hell...no

Imho the campaign quest is only a issue the first time around when you don't know what to expect. Other playthroughs after it's just to find better ways sto deal with it and improve on it. I find take their home, and recruit a lot of their clans to my own kingdom before I assemble the banner work great.

Worst thing you can do is rush to assemble the banner. You can fine make your own kingdom before that part that trigger the conspiracy part.

My problem with the quest is that it first comes across as introductionary quest for newcomers and serves quite well for this purpose, but then at some point it suddenly turns into a nightmarish challenge even for experienced players.

I like the campaign, but would say it is more enjoyable being a merc for quite a while, and travelling around getting yourself into all sorts of situations to level skills. You want some village attacks or sieges for ranged and athletics, open battles for riding and polearm, and defensive ballista sieges for engineering.

I've spent about 3 years basically grinding practice field to turn my boy into a beefcake, then grinding tournaments and progressively more quests, so he is not a completely socially awkward brute. Now I've got the dragon banner, 103 troops and 85,900 denars, and a the brother has popped out two or three children already plus I have 5 companions. We'll see how it goes from here.

Gonna try to marry Itaria and align with her peeps.

It is on Ironman so it could get spicey!

The real value of a good strategy game is that defeat IS a real prospect, which makes replays not just a possibility but a real probability. I've already realized that: in my initial bias to make this guy a Tournament Jock in his initial design, I neglected the social skills a bit too much. At least just one point into Charm / Leadership could have done wonders and I would have progressed at hack and slash only a bit less rapidly.
