companions wont govern
lately when i send a clan member to govern a city
they go sit in a random other of my cities instead
is that just me or currently standard?

seems like taking them into party and escorting them works but cant be intended
to have you babysit them when theres profit to be made elsewhere

Is your game modded?

Are you certain they move to other towns? Do they move to a village associated to a town? Cause thats normal behaviour if situated at a town (added to tavern/keep). Other towns is weird.

The game still has niggling issues, so this could very well be a bug but I havent experienced it during a 3k days playthrough but thats not really saying anything either apart from a verbal shrug.

I have many clan couples now that govern towns and grow the family for me while the other half used to go out and deal with issues, this doesn't seem to be happening as much AFAIK. They do breed tho, so I'm content enough.

I have expienced some other bugs related to calling people to my group and/or replacing party leaders in an army. Perhaps related?

I've experienced this in 1.0.1+. They are governors of a settlement but they are not actually in that settlement. So they won't get the governor bonuses. It even effects the AI clans too.

I reverted back to 1.0.0 and it is no longer a problem. Everything works fine. Everyone is where they are supposed to be.

How did you put them into the settlement?

As you know.. I play a lot too. I have played all three patches since release. I have had many governors in fiefs I own. And have never experienced this. I'm wondering if it is how we put them in.

I never use the "clan/fief" tab.. and assign them there. I always GO to the fief and manually put them in. Not sure if it is why or not.. But this is how I do it, and have not seen this bug yet.

Sadly, yes.. I have seen MANY bugs since release.. regarding companions and movement/placement. Lots of weird ones.. and they are rare.. so I cant isolate them

Today I was battania. Married my Youngest brother to Svana. (I wanted a sturgia wife ofc.. since I'm sure I will get a sturgia fief sooner or later). I went to Godun (or whoever it was.. I forget).. asked for her hand.. He said yeah.. as always.
I paid the money.. Then walked back to my home. epicrotea.
Looked at clan tab.. said "svana near Chaikand".

Huh??? no. She should say "holding", or "at omor". or something else.. "Recently released, recovering".

Sure enough She was in her ORIGINAL sturgia party. (which was now Battanias.. MINE. and I did not have to pay for it.).
I could not disband it (wasnt in my PARTY section). could not recall her.. couldnt do anything.
Had to go. make an army. (with a THIRD person). then click her.. add her to army. Then walk her to where we had wars. Kick her out.. watch her get captured by a bigger party. and released.

THEN I could treat her as a companion.

I only write this, because it was weird. never seen it in 3k hours.. and to show I DO BELIEVE there is some nonsense going on with companions/locations etc.. since release.

But personally I havent seen "governors moving" or not in the town they should be in.

It is or was a known issue. I did not check if it still is, but I thought it was solved. If it is still happening check the known issues thread on TW forums.. Maybe some info there.

EDIT: Here is a thread from TW forums about this issue; TW says fixed in May 2022, but still being reported.

playing all vanilla
happens when assigning via clans tab
they go to a whole differrent city i also own, not some bound village
it happens only with specific clan members,
or maybe only after a couple already beeing assigned as governor in other cities, in my case it happens since the 6th fief, on the 7th and 8th ones too, no clue if thats related but i didnt have it happen with 5 or less so far
gonna check that thread now did i miss any questions?

well. try doing it manually (walking to the town.. and assigning them governor from MANAGE TOWN screen.

There was an 'exploit" that wasn't an exploit for a long time. you could instantly bring companions across the world.. By assigning them as governors.. So lets say U own Chaikand, and Revyl.. U could go to revyl.. and UNCLICK the governor in chiakand.. and then assign him as governor in Revyl. he instantly appeared. U now put him in your party.. and then from clan screen assigned NEW governor to chaikand, and he instantly appeared there. (it wasnt an exploit IMO, because sometimes people got LOST in the ether.. so you had to do it to find them.. but yeah fast travel was OP.. I still wouldnt call it an exploit.. doing that trick, didnt help u conquer anything.. it just moved some scrub companions around).

The devs changed this awhile back.. but not in may 2022... so I dunno if its related..
but it seems like this "assigning governors" through clan tab being bugged might be related.. IMO

yeah i said in my initial statement that they work if i escort them to the city
leader cocaine Jan 8, 2023 @ 8:13pm
i have more fiefs, wars and all kinds of tasks then clan members so babysitting every one of them every time will ruin my efficiency,
its worse then simply not using governors and reconquering them after rebellion

walking to a town.. once.. that you own. to set the production queue.. garrison etc.. and assign a governor is ...

"worse then simply not using governors and reconquering them after rebellion"????

interesting.

Click on Clan tab.
Click on Fiefs.
Click on Assign Governor.
A Governor is really only good to be assigned in a *TOWN*, because all Castles and surrounding villages are *Governed* by a Town.
Make certain that your Governor is aligned to the same Culture.

I hope this helps.

thats how i usually do it, unless i have a fitting governor with me during siege already
thats where the bug happens

i didnt realize castles are governed by their citys governor this will help get along with too few clan members
probably didnt realize because i usually dont have enough governors for castles anyway

and the culture really is a big point for me even if it only brings 1 loyalty
or a differrence of 2 between a fitting one and one that doesnt

the owner culture makes me rethink if i want to keep/defend one often at this point,
pretty chill when it fits

This has been happening to me since I downloaded the game... But I don't mind because even if they aren't in the correct city, or castle they still show as governor and the city or castle still gets the bonus...

My niece likes to hang out in Oytesia or whatever with her aunt, but the castle she is suppose to govern is still taken care of....
