F1 = Show you a buch of order you can give,
F2 = Show you a buch of formation you can ask,
F3 = other command to use,
0 = Choose all your group,
1 = Choose the troup you have put in the first square when you prepare your army, by example infantry,
2 - Choose the troup you have put in the second square when you prepare your army, by example bowman,
ect..., you can have 6 group,

So, if you want to give order to all of your men, you make such as Kamal say, this will say to all of your men to follow you, or to charge, depending of the command you choose,

but to be more strategic, you can give different order to different group in the same time,

by example, you put infantry to square 1, bowmen in 2, cavalry in 3, and you in 4, you can say to each of her to make different thing of the other, by example, you can say to your infantry to make a shield wall and advance, and in the same time you can say to your bowman to fire at will and make her advancing to follow the wall of infantry in other formation than the infantry, by example make a line dispersed, and you can say to your cavalry to follow you,

like this you make your infantry advance slowly, you make your archer follow her more neer in other formation, and you and your cavalry can wait or charge or attack freely and in the same time, your infantry protect the bowmen and the bowmen shoot the ennemy in the same time, if you have enought infantry, you can say her to take a circle formation around your bowmand to protect her too, ect...,

They have more thing you can do and different order and move you can make, and if you want to micro manage more, when you are in the box window where you prepare your army, you have icon over and down of each box, in this if you click on it, you can choose each type of people they will be in this grooup and wich type of weapon you want your man in this group priorise to use,

by example, if on the top icon of a square you say you want cavalry in this, (you can choose one or the two type of cavalry in this groop, by example bowmen cavalry, and cavalry only are the two in the same group, and in the icon in the bottom, you can say you want the hormen in this group priorise the sword or the halbard by example, or the bow for those they have it,

and for finish you can put a commander for the troop, and if you don't want to control the group the commander are in charge, you can say her to make her job and control her man, ect...,

but giving more different type of order in more group in the same time you need to play as a general of your army, you have no time to move big, you look the battlefield and you yiel your order and say her where to go and what to do, it's a chance they have put a slowmotion when we give order, else we can be lost fast and finish with an headach with all the key we need to push ha ha ha

In my experience advancing works best when you just need to get closer and when you need to have close combat troops maintain formation while engaging. It does not work desirably for ranged troops which are under attack by enemy in close combat, so you should take care to not allow your archer line to "advance" upon an enemy if they are already in contact with opponents.

I have not yet mastered the troop control system in Bannerlord, but it is very reminiscent of an old mod for one of the previous versions of the game. This seems like a good overview. The system is a bit baffling at the outset, and that is made even worse by the fact that the campaign does not introduce the full "army" control system until you have achieved Clan Level 1 or some such.
