So best First Companion?
Judging your Character can now assume all the ''Party Titles'' is a Combat oriented Companion better now in the early game than rather get Scout or Medic one?

combat oriented companions take forever to train up and just doesn't feel like it pays off
There is no "best" companion really. Get companions that suit your needs, If you don't want to do scouting on your main. Get a companion with scouting skills. If you go archer heavy, get a good archer companion to lead them. Get a engineer if you want to siege a lot of fiefs.. It's not rocket science -)

I would say, a smith in case you plan to play using smiting.
If you dont smite, then a scout.
My hero travels alone for a long time. As long you are alone, each troop of bandits engages your, you doent waste the time tryijng to catch them.
Victory in the Tournaments provides wordefull possibility to improve you skills, make decent money and equip your hero and also companions.

depends... they provide really solid bonus to your troops in cas eyou got for vig and ctr. It feels even mor ein earlygame.

But otherwise - yeah, they take forever to train in most cases.
Preacher don't make us cry
I look for a scout first, then a surgeon, but if I bump into anyone good, I'll grab them, too.

It depends but Hasbulat has a common opinion on best first companion IMO. That I agree whole-heartedly with

Smith because it takes more than one smith to be efficient. (and you will most likely want to smith late game for XP, if not old).
Scout is decent because it is a weak Attribute tree IMO (cunning).

I'd also add Engineer. Because if your first companion will be a governor, you want him/her to have Engineer 125. (that perk is insanely good).. so that when you are awarded a fief (which is probably burned to the ground or close to it).. as you rebuild Settlement Buildings, you get +100.

So Sargot you inherited at 800 Prosperity. and all buildings at lvl 0. except level 1 walls.. Now as your governor sits there for the next decade building it up.. You get sargot at 8k or so..

Nice.

IMHO the medic is important if you're still looking to contribute heavily to battles, like I do.
Since I personally like to take Surgeon as my party role, I go for Engineers as my future governors. Once I hae gobbled all of them up, I like the ones that have high Tactics/Leadership/Steward. Since I tend to give older brother Smithing as his growth skill, I don't usually bother with smith companions, it's a very easy skill to spam up, and when Nathanos (or whatever his name is per your culture) he handles all the contract orders until the rest of the party catches up.

Medic line has lot of personal and party leader and even a clan leader perk. I could advice to level the medicine by the main hero. And it is possible to start the game with 30 points into Midicine and so take the first perk from the very beginning, which is very strong.

I think same way, but didnt wanna rain on anyones parade.

The reality is if you like to fight.. not just play Total War, and stand on a hill.. you will take a lot of damage (on realistic difficulty). It is good to have damage mitigation perks, HP perks, defensive perks etc.. and Medic gives a fast way to recover. I hate in a new campaign when I still have 0-15 medic.. I fight some scrubs am down to 20% health. See a nice tourny, wanna go there, and need to wait 4 days. With my party wasting 300 denars a day.. doing nothing.
By time I win tourny, It's a "break even".

For me, and my style... I keep medic as my job too.
