Game deleted savegames?

I was playing for a few hours. Saved manually, and let my gf play on her campaign... She saved normally a few times. when i tried to continue playing my campaign all my savegames were gone. The only saved state was the very first autosave, even before attacking the first hideout. Lost about 12 hrs of progress. Any ideas how/why this happened and how I can prevent it?

Never heard of that. I assume someone clicked something (delete save) on accident. but thats just a guess.

Perhaps (though I doubt it)... You have a Corrupt file.

Go to "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF FILES" see if you have anything corrupt.

Lastly... the BETA patch notes.. (search bannerlord news).. says there is some bug where some saves get corrupt for some reason or other. I forget.

but perhaps that is the issue.

I never heard of your problem, but it certainly sounds plausible.. with corrupt files or corrupt saves.

Fixed a memory leak that occurred when returning to the main menu.
[PS] Fixed a bug that caused a save to get corrupted when overwriting save files.
[PS] Fixed a bug that prevented the deletion of corrupted save files.
[PS4] Reduced the save file limit from 32 to 16 to allow for larger files without corruption.
If you have more than 16 save files, this will not delete your files. It will only prevent you from creating new files until you are below 16 again. You can overwrite all existing files."


this is from the beta patch notes (i.e. the NEXT official patch).. it refers to a known bug with saves.. perhaps this was your case.

The local files were verified without errors. It is likely that my gf saved for more than 15 times (tried to win tournaments).
Could it be that the autosave files were overwritten by her autosaves? I saved manually but i didnt bother to "save as".

yeah this whole thing is confusing to me. I BELIEVE you and gf have the issue. I believe no files corrupted etc..

I also believe devs arent "making it up" when they say, they fixed a save bug that corrupts saves when you over write them

The PROBLEM I have lol.. is that I have some saves I use every campaign (well over 40 campaigns) and some of them have been around for 3 years

I've used and over written each of them 500 times minimum. I dont get corrupt saves..

so I'm confused, what actually triggers it.

Well. Let's hope it is only an issue on your side.. where it was over written too many times. and you can just make some new saves, and over write them "less".

i think steam cloud has something to do with it, i had steam cloud disabled because it would no longer sync. Then I upgraded to windows 11 and steam broke, drop down menus were blank boxes, so i reinstalled steam. New steam enabled steam cloud for bannerlord and POOF all my local saves were gone and the ancient ones from the first month of early access were on my pc.

Then I moved a copy of my saves from onedrive to my steam folder and instantly they all became corrupted and now are I can not delete them from steam cloud it just fails.

Only game where Ive ever had disappearing saves or steam cloud issues, so I believe it has something to do with the it works on bannerlord.

The autosaves are overwritten when you autosave in a different campaign. If you don't have any "save as" saves then you're out of luck and that campaign is gone.

edit - If your gf didn't play very long that might explain why you still had one autosave or it's possible the game might keep one autosave in an otherwise empty campaign.

Hardsave remain Autosave get shared between campaign. The last Save when you left the game must always be (save as) if not you have only autosaves and they get overwrite when you or some other start a new game

Maybe you did something you were not supposed to and your gf found out.

This was it. It looks like i always used the autosave slot. I played a bit yesterday and now all autosaves of the other campaign got overwritten with mine (I luckily saved hers on a new save slot before starting).

It seems like the game has only three slots for autosaving and at some point starts to overwritte them (even if they were on other campaigns)....

This is mainly for anyone else who this happens to, but you can get your saves back if you go into your files and find the auto-save, right click on it and go to view more options. Then go to version history and click on the three dots, on the version you want to restore, and then restore it. You should then see the save in game.
