Oups! I guess I'm the Emperor now!

Please meet Gael Mipson, born of humble Battanian village healers, he witnessed in his youth already the atrocities of war, and the chaos that it leaves in its wake, in which bandits and looters thrive. Later when the rulers of Sturgia and Vlandia raided his homeland, he enlisted as a mercenary with the western Empire, to strike back at the invaders.

Over time he was convinced that his new ruler Garios could restore peace by unifying the entirety of Calradia under his banner. So he pledged his allegiance and naturally expanded the realm under the Empire's protection by striking the foolish clans who dared to attack his master.

As the great wars neared their end, Gael was besieging one of the few last Khuzait strongholds, and that's when he learned the news of his Emperor and friend's death. As the clans gathered to elect the new ruler, Gael was surprised to see that his brothers in arms unanimously supported him to become the new ruler. Gael had no ambitions for himself, but he treated all his brethrens fairly, and they in turn must have recognized and appreciated that. All he wanted was to restore law and order, so that no village in Calradia would ever get pillaged again.

And at this point the remaining Khuzaits proabably ♥♥♥♥ their pants, because they sued for peace and offered to pay a tribute of 27 Million denars per day? WHAAAAAT?

God this game is great! Yes it has many many flaws, but damn there are only few other ones out that are so well suited for emergent storytelling. 10/10

Well, first playthrough is complete! With some help I claimed the Dragon Banner for myself. On this screenshot I only realized later that it was bugged! My character appears twice in this animation, and I seem to be pledging allegiance to myself! Cue the Obama giving a medal go Obama meme!

Then the 4 remaining Khuzait towns conveniently conspired against me, voiding the non-aggression pact from the previous war that they had just begged for. So I got right back to besieging. Here is the last pocket of resistance falling to the might of the Imperial army.

And that's it! Time to think about what to do for my second playthrough... maybe an Azerai and Khuzait Alliance for world domination?

Erm... quick update, I think I broke the game. Firstly, the Khergits are actually paying the heafty tribute.. I have no idea where they are finding the coins! This is making more money than smithing!

The main advantage of minting coins with precious metals is to prevent currency manipulation and counterfeiting. Only nowadays with bank notes and digital currencies can you just print money out of nowhere. Please Talewolds! This is breaking my medieval immersion! :P Inflation will be through the roof!

The other way I broke the game is that I was planning to give the dragon banner to Garios as we laid siege to the last Khergit fief standing in the way of total conquest. But now Garios is dead, and I'm the ruler. I can equip the dragon banner on myself in my inventory but the main quests lines didn't go away?

Yeah you are right, probably I broke diplomacy for the tribute thing.

But for the main quest that must be an oversight also in vanilla no? The fix I found is to abdicate power, and then give the banner to the new ruler. But there is no option to claim the banner for yourself when you are already the ruler.

Basically its your faction now, find the quest giver (istiana I guess) and talk to her.

Ahhh yes you are right! That worked! The reason I didn't try that immediately is because in my quest log it said I was not an independent faction. So not all the boxes were ticked. But actually you can totally just talk to her and the main quest progresses!

Congratulations, but vanilla game doesn't work this way. You have to mod to reach end-game.

Ah thanks! And well, that's fine. Tbh it never crossed my mind to play this game without mods. Why not have all the bells and whistles when you can have all the bells and whistles?

that is a known mod bug, for years.

YEARS.

People were showing million of denars a day in tribute. 50 players said "no way that is vanilla. that is caused by mods". They denied it was mods.. (not you Kebabsoup. OTHER PEOPLE in the past, when this comes up)

then they all disappeared when they were shown the MOD it is causing the bug..

anyway, yeah. 99.9999999999999999999999% it is a bug with a mod

Yeah it must actually be hard for the devs to get proper feedback and do all the debugging when a huge chunk of your player base plays with mods.
