Lords and Heroes can still die in battle even with the "birth and death" module disabled.
Came back to Bannerlord after a long hiatus. I saw that "birth and death" has become its own module now and it is unchecked by default.

So I decided to play a new sandbox campaign without birth and death, but forgot to uncheck the "hero death in battle" option at the start of the campaign. I made the assumption that since I don't even have the "birth and death" module enabled, surely they're not going to allow lords to die in battle.

I thought wrong...

A year into the game, 40 percent of my factions lords are dead. Since no one gives birth, my faction is literally on its path to extinction. Its gotten so bad that I'm going to have to restart the campaign.

So beware. If you don't play with the "birth and death" module, but forget to turn off the hero death in battle option, then you can literally depopulate your faction.

Birth and Death module is needed to disable the system as far as I understood it back then when they released that module.

If you do not have the module active you do not get the option to disable the system during character creation and the system is enabled by default then.
"Lords and Heroes can still die in battle even with the "birth and death" module disabled."

... ehm, but if its disabled, they must die ?!?

if you dont want them die, you must activate the mod + use the game-option in character creation.

It's really confusing how taleworlds handles these options. After a bit of testing, I think I got it figured out.

1. Birth and Death is a feature that enables babies to be born and lords to die of old age. This option will only appear at the start of the game IF the "birth and death module" is enabled in the mod options.

2. "Hero death in battle" is a completely separate system from "birth and death". This option controls whether lords and companions can die in battle. This option is available at the start of the game regardless of whether "birth and death module" is checked or not.
But I disabled battle death for all heroes in the "hero deaths in combat" option in game options and my companion still died. He was my medic too. Does this mean I can die too??

Lol, meanwhile I can't get any enemy lord to drop dead despite even unspecc-ing "Doctor's Oath" just so they finally die.

^^
