Starting Your Own Kingdom?
I'm many, many hours into this game, and I'm going start my next game with starting my own kingdom as the plan.

However, it seems like a very tedious, and difficult path to take. Can anyone explain to me why you won't just get immediately wiped out by your neighbors, or give me tips on how to make it work?

If you leave a kingdom while keeping your holdings, you'll be an independent clan. You can just talk to any lord (not merc) you're at war with and barter for peace, pay couple 10Ks of cash for peace IIRC.

Then you can form a kingdom by talking to any of your own governors. However, independent clans can't be declared war upon, it's a bit of an exploit. So you can improve your towns, gather more cash and better troops etc.

I would recommend having a few castles before you declare your independence, so that the first thing you do after declaring your own kingdom, is go find a bunch of heads of clans of the right culture and convince them to switch sides. It'll likely cost several hundred K cash per clan, plus you gotta succeed in convincing them, and you'll probably want good relations with that clan, and still not all clans will consider joining if they like their king too much.

Then give those new clans those castles you own an voila, you got yourself an extra party or two to call into your army!

Needless to say, it's way way way easier if you do not have multiple kingdoms neighboring you, as they will likely all still declare war on you because you're relatively weak.

Do not establish your own kingdom until you are economically and militarily secure. Have a few million in the bank and own a few towns in good locations (i.e., not scattered all over the map). And have a good army with at least a couple of parties that you can call into an army when you want to.

Ad it should go without saying that you should be operating in the black.

Ok, so this is a late game move. Build up your clan, own much property, and betray your Lord when you know you can beat him.

well, to make things simplier, i suggest to do everything other way around.
instead of making kingdom and then try to conquer everyhing or wanted, first(!) conquer everything/wanted, then make kingdom. before that leave everyone without influence.

I highly recommend passing all policies that you want before inviting clans to your Kingdom. No clans, no opposition.

I found that charm, leadership and tactics helped me the most in conquering the entire map.
