You can always just pay for peace when it is useful. Seriously, in my lastest campaign I am a stonethrow away from clan tier 5 on day 56. And the loot...
Almost, you do want atleast SOME place close to sell of the loot and prisoners ;D
And, I wouldnt generally take prisoners. It slows you down. Need for speed and all that.
push out a ton of caravans to do what you wrote.
bring smithing to max so that i can smith the best weapons for him
make a duck ton of money so that i would never need to care about that
and maybe even get some rebelion towns under me ready to start a kingdom
Early game: pick up fights with looters as horse archer, Tournaments are trash unless you will be a Tournament Champion plus there are some perks that also give +1 renown daily
Mid game: pick one faction and join army, follow it around, dont be afraid to peace out when AI does stupid things
