Mercenary Pay
Im currently in a war with some different factions and im with the western empire. In this campaign we are paying around 2k for mercenaries for some reason. This is really effecting my cash flow. Should I just give up on being a vassal? I had 70k and now i have 50k because i can't keep up with the selling of merchandise. Not even my 3 caravans, 1 town, and 1 castle can help keep up with the cost. It is really annoying and I tried to force a mercenary clan out by using 100 influence but they denied it.

You could leave the kingdom but keep your holdings, which will result in war with that kingdom. You can buy peace by talking to any lord from that kingdom, but 50k may not be enough.

Suggestion -- Save first and try it to see how much your old king will want. Then reload if you don't have the necessary coin.

I reloaded a few times and we made peace and our mercenary contracts went down. Now we are in peace time and making my money slowly back. Just need to make more caravans when i get the money to

i never had this much merc pay that usually stays under 100 denars lmao, guess your mercs solo the entire enemy army for that pay XD

I think what happened was the mercs killed a whole minimal clan and they got about 4k for the longest time.

my favorite was when you were hired as a merc, and then the army starts starving, so they start taking your food

and not paying you for it

or taking a big merc company into war, and you get this tiny slice despite taking the most skulls during combat.

being a merc in calradia sucks lol

You're doing it wrong. Joining an army just waters down the loot, and the bastards steal your food. Mercenaries work best in independent operations. Get yourself a fast strike force of about 50 T3 cavalry and start raiding caravans. Go behind enemy lines and raise hell. Thing Francis Marion, the Swamp Fix, or the Gray Ghost John Mosby.

Caravans have nice loot, and you get all of it, plus a nice mercenary payment on top of the loot. And the bastards can't steal your food.

You will also capture mounted caravan guards who can eventually be recruited.

If peace breaks out and the targets dry up, just go bust bandits until war breaks out again. You get paid your merc salary for bandits and looters, too. Not as much fun as caravans, but it pays the bills.

Actually, If you really want to make an impact you start shadow other parties in the faction you are merc for and then start join in and help them in fights. Reputation, Charm, Loot...

I used to raid caravans a lot as a merc, but dunno if it was a bug or not but I took some serious standing hits the owner sof the caravans and basically got branded an outlaw...

Do not know which version you are playing. However this might be a factor.

1.9 patch notes

"Increased the mercenary daily wages by 50%."

Not a bug, and one of the reasons I rarely raid caravans or villages.
