Leveling up skills and leveling cap?
So just a little confused here about how it works, I know that your attribute points and focus points increase the learning limit of a skill and that you increase the skill by performing certain actions related to the skill however can you level a skill beyond the learning limit?

Does the learning limit cap the amount you can level a skill or does it merely slow progression in the skill after you hit the learning limit?

the system is simply horrible is one thing you should know, it can punish you for everything; the many NPCs with some skills that look decent - are actually unlevelable completely

and YES, the limit is somewhat fuzzy and should be at least 25%+ past the limit but it differs; the maximum limit for example is 240 -> that actually means skill cap may be around 330-350 iirc

the cap defines the "learning rate" XP bonus which at limit will degrade to 0

so both - it will slow down massively to a grind and then become 0; with 0 cap i think 18 is the absolute skill cap or so

at 327 riding w240 cap = 0.38 learning rate, looks like the end (if you wanna break / cheat with console commands however - a one time XP overdose will make your skill like 1023, that's the true cap normally; you may want 1000 charm to have easy relations for quests)
Check mods that give you more attribute points and focus points by the endgame so you dont have to worry about this godawful system.
Endgame perks are quite powerful, many of them can be enabled at skill level of 250 or 275, but their benefits often start from 200 and the bonus aint that small. The further increase of skill past 275 is kind of intentionally slow.
Trading does require 300 as its final requirement and its stupid high, but rewards those that just play the merchant game (and anyone who does not play merchant might not even want that perk)

The only annoyance is that total number of attributes and focus points you will ever get is quite small (hence mod suggestion for late game). You can max out maybe 3 attribute categories in vanilla.
The hard limit is focus pointsx40, and attribute pointsx14 -10. So 330 max.

So one thread you complain about smithing, yet here you are annoyed by "godawful system" that prevents completely breaking the game with OP character (multiple 275+ skills). Fascinating.

lol the games are broken and some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying skill caps limit it in no way

like, will "♥♥♥♥♥♥ one handed sword skill" win you a million battles, when their bonuses may not even work and you do not fight yourself most of the time? is there any safe word against 300 charm chad in whose world you are just living? so why can one be the impossible chad and be unable to swing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sword, spear, slaves no matter how much time you spent doing it? (i mean also - charm gives infinite massive influence, one day you may simply rule any realm after a while of fleecing them; about the same with trade too)

and then there are fian champions which can be easily trained now with full villages of noble troops, able to kill 2000 army in siege while outnumbered...

and then there are "skilled companions" who cannot level up once because no one cares about balance and sanity really
You literally explained, how such would break the game, and why the devs did as they did, thanks.

i explained how i can always break it with literally just 1 skill (actually cannot max out even 2 different categories), the other melee crap i would need - only for convenience

or on other hand - no need either, because you can win any duel and tournaments with 0 skill ez

the old warband "official system" was similar - it bans you from useful skills more or less, BUT you could still cheese it with ingame systems to get ALL maxed skills (and it is not that cool anyway), it theoretically lets you level up - like after 1000 hours of play at some point, very smart turkish design bro don't question it

So you want more right away? Logic!

I have 4 maxed skills on my current character. I'm not sure if I could get 5th, probably, but it would not be easy. MInd, it's a dude within early twilight, played from personal combat focus to rulership. He earned his skills through his whole life.

My only question is what exactly are you trying to imply. You say that game can be bended over with 1 skill maxed, then you say you want all skills maxed impossible chad (TM).
You are no better than that previous guy, who can't decide whether he wants restrictions for smithing or OP gaming experience or just to troll here.

as if the game wasn't broken everywhere else already.
though this is indeed an awfull system, not to remove anything from how awfully broken(to the player benefit though) smithing is too.
so you can degrade in skill? or did I misunderstand or misread something? Because I haven't experienced any degradation yet, but if it will happen, that will make my decisions of where to put the increased caps more crucial.
turkish logic be like - let's make a game less fun until no one plays it, especially not the veterans that know how bad it is

if you do have points however, it takes little time to max out skills, if you just find some artificial ass combat in fields with hobos

i'm wondering and it could be very well said too - that the game could be bent over with NO skills, just basic manipulation and TIME, maybe it dies itself because of how nonexistent balance and sanity are in it, many women are unmarried for half a decade, soon they will be infertile

"maxed skills" is not impossible chad, it's just someone with bunch of artificial points, a real human being with more memory and attention span than a complete pleb; however some ultimate abilities can make a dude - that, still painfully, may win anything by artificial point attrition; the only troll here is TWords and demented game designers that are never chosen for their skill and smarts
Basically after the learning limit the experience multiplier will go down the more levels you get, until eventually it can hit 0. So you will be able to get some levels but it will be slower and eventually you won't be able to level it any further. For example my character in my current campaign has 5 focus points in riding and 8 endurance, his riding skill is over 275 and is around 1.0 x or less experience now.
so at zero the skill won't increase beyond the cap? Or it is just slower?

If the multiplier is zero you get no experience. It is multiplying the experience you get... any number multiplied by zero is zero.

you cannot lose points, at 0 skill should become red and reached the cap, then actually it cannot be higher - the only exception if you somehow had a supermassive chunk of experience (must be a cap to it anyway). then it may skip a few levels and stall anyway

before 0 it may be also so slow that you are unlikely to reach true cap

HOWEVER all characters will die possibly somewhat soon, then all your skills are gone

i haven't seen companions respawn or anything as well
