Second mistake: Not Picking Battania
Not sure why you would willingly pick the worst faction just to get beat by the best.
Hope this helps
Try the custom battle, have your whole party archer against enemy pure cav.
For example 200 Palpatine Guard vs 200 Elite Cataphract. Cav. would win, right?
NOPE. Have your archer in shield wall formation and have a taste of Vladian's 'experience'.
Horses obstruct each other charge, bog down to melee fight instead of doing charge and retreat. The current bots works fine for few unit count. Hundred of troop? One want to charge, other want to get out, enemy inf. caught up, both die doing melee with inf.
To be honest Vlandia has some of the best tier 5 units in the game. Sharpshooter and the Sergeant are excellent for their particular roles.
When it comes to ranged units, Vlandian Sharpshooters are 2nd only to Brittanian Fians, and being Fians are tier 6 that is understandable.
While the Sergeant is perhaps the best Shield wall Infantry in the game. Able to use polearms and blunt weapons, meaning they're effective vs both cavalry and infantry, and can basically be almost immune to missile fire unless flanked.
Battanians auto counter Cavalry cause all they need is a small frontline to catch the charge and arrowmen will do the rest.
To me Vlandia fills the role of Rhodok and Swadia as one faction. If you've played Warband.
They have Rhodok style Sergeants, and Swadian style Sharpshooters but with Rhodok style shields. Meanwhile also having Swadian style heavy cavalry.
To be honest if Fians were not so ridiculously broken balance wise, Vlandian Sharpshooters likely would be the best ranged unit in the game. They even out range Fians while also having high accuracy.
Though if you threw 100 Fians vs 100 Vlandian Sharpshooters I think the Fians would still win as sure the Sharpshooters will be able to pick many of them off before they can return fire, Fians will still win out with volume of fire once they get into range, as they have 4x the ammunition as Sharpshooters as well. But Fians again are broken. No tier 6 unit should be as good as the Fians end up being.
Honestly Fians need to have their bows taken away and turned into dedicated top tier two handed melee infantry, ie highlanders. And give the Brittanians a proper tiered archer branch. Right now Fians are near top tier melee and well beyond top tier ranged all in one package and it's stupid. They're multi-role and tier 6, which is the problem. Which means a Fian spam army can defeat almost any arm in the game.
sturgia heavy spearman as front line ( best shield wall troop that can deal with anything )
fian for archer
khan guard as cavalry ( bot is bad with thrust atk while they r good with swing )
khan guard can be use as fire cover or flank archer thank to their horse which work wonderful when coperate with fian to deal with enemy shieldwall
and khan guard also deaddly to use as interceptor again enemy cavalry their glavie have upper hand again all other shock cavalry thank to their reach and damage
if u really want to use shock cavalry then i recommend dzurik champion over cataphact
dzurik work wonderfull as body block to stop enermy cavalry charge while also become deadly infantry when they r dismount for siege battle
1) not the faction is bad
2) not the AI is bad
its the player that can make every faction into the best. and if you have problems, there is something called game-difficult settings... or read a guide to get better.
It all depends on the player and if they're just F3'ing everything. I think a lot of people also just f6 and watch the AI act stupid.
You can beat any army regardless of faction in an equal number fight as long as the player knows how to command the troops. Even 100 vs 500 is doable if you use the landscape.
Micro'ed Cavalry is very good.
I've had pretty decent luck with 2 groups of cavalry as well, so you can hit them from two sides at around the same moment. A bit more F micro but it can really break them quick. Bonus points for softening them up with archers and coordinating the charge with an infantry charge.
