The answer is... if you like text boxes, then mb1+mods.
If you like battles, then bannerlord.
it all depends on you and your preferences, bannerlord offers a rich gameplay experience but after spending a while in it it feels shallow. bannerlord has a bigger map, more towns and castle to siege, more lords to convince to join your kingdom, more quests, more items, but for some reason in feels less than warband, especialy when compared with warband with specific amazing mods like PoP. PoP had all those spawns and random knighthood orders, and bandits, and deserters and completely different factions that roamed the map and offered the player a very rich gaming experience if the player was willing to devote enough time to the grind.
in bannerlord there is only a different grind it's not really necessary to win, no need to level, no chase items to collect, the overland map is just generic factions that are somewhat the same, and generic lords and bandits. it's fun coming up with new tactics how to defeat particular kingdoms with different unit compositions. commanding the troops on the battlefield is somewhat better but not really much, and sieges are the same defend or overwhelm a enemy at a chokepoint. you can get married and have children in bannerlord, but because of the way time passes in bannerlord and no real possibility to speed it up enough, that option is just some sidefeature. not once did i manage to play long enough to see my character die or my grand grand children grow up, and one of my playtroughs is actually over 200 hours long.
warband had a longer early and midgame, where the player was a nobody struggling to survive in calradia, that part is somewhat gone in bannerlord. also game is alot easier than certain mods for warband.
so it's up to you, if you have a amazing pc and want to be somewhat amazed by modern graphics, cloth simulation, beatiful textures, forests, snow and horses, while coming up with new battlefield strategies, it's bannerlord, if you want to play a rpg and immerse yourself in one of the many fantasy worlds created by the modmakers for warband, then play warband.
I have suddenly discovered that I haven't played Warsword Conquest since '17, so finally having some fun with it.
As for your comment about it being different 6 months ago...quite literally the last discussion with almost the exact same topic was on July 22.
If you like everything not related to combat then stick to Warband and its mods. I do miss Pendor and Gekokujo. I hope to see them in Bannerlord someday.
I'm sure, in time, we'll have great total conversion for bannerlord as well. But it will be many many years, as even to this day the base game remains a bit of a mess. And in many ways more than the original games ever were.
Clark and Onimahi, you deserve each other. 2 peas in a pod.
There is a difference between M&B 1 and Warband.
I recommend Warband with mods, Bannerlord will never be feature complete.
Warband also has a much more healthy online base, where in Bannerlord it seems less than 5% of players are online, and so even with a lot more total players, it has fewer online players.
Neither is the better game, it comes down to what appeals to you more. Though I really do think most people find it very difficult to go back to the Warband mechanics after thoroughly enjoying the Bannerlord ones. I certainly do.
