Marriage
Can I marry a wife to get children in case I want to stay as mercenary (long term mercenary, to not rush the game and build something up)?

yes you can marry. I tend to choose Sora as she has a high steward and trade level but can be any unmarried character. You have to go talk to the noble you choose and ask to court her. Exit the convo completely and go right back into a new convo. Choose to talk about the future. This brings up a mini game and you have to correctly answer 3 questions. Get it wrong and you lose for good so recommend saving before doing this step. After passing all the questions leave the convo and wait 24 hrs. enter new convo and will have to answer i believe 2 more questions. Again recommend saving first. After completing those questions you have to "Bribe" the head member of the family to allow you to marry. After marriage you have to spend a good while inside the same city as your wife. Could be a week could be a day but you will get a notification that she (or you if female) are expecting a child. I Married Sora and have 4 children atm

Thank you so much Pulley. This sounds like a great plan. I will search for Sora. Perhaps I need a bit more dennars, as I have to ' Bribe' .

I wish to play as mercenary, and never join a clan. Just create my own from the ground and see how this goes. I find a new play through is more fun instead of playing regular; joining a clan and build up your ranks until you become the leader.

I use to choose Yana of Knuzait for my main hero as his wife and Lienna of Vlanden for his borther. They have by far better stats then Sora and most of other wemen in Calradia.

Another thing - you dont have to bribe anyone to get married - just look who is the clan leader of women your hero choose, speak to him and pay some tribute for the wife.
And it s done!

His "sora" answer is correct. mostly.

Sora is GREAT. one of the best wive candidates. But you shouldn't JUST pick based on stats. You want great stats, that's for sure, but EACH faction has a top tier wife candidate (I call them Princesses... but not ALL are the direct daughter of the ruler). Ira, Liena, Corein etc...

There are Often a SECOND wife candidate per faction.. That wife is NEARLY as good. and sometimes the best one available, if your choice for THAT faction is gone.

Which is a big deal.

My advice, is to pick a wife based on "your plans for that game". You kinda want to have a "goal in mind" when you start, You can change it of course.. But it is a good idea to know WHERE you want to start from (in fact, that is why you pick a CULTURE in character development)... And based on this "which way do I wanna expand".

So a basic example. I want to Be battania (my current campaign). I want battanian towns (I can buy them, with trade perk 300 or take them over from combat).

So If I do not want to BUY them, I want a Faction near by that will go to war with battania. Vlandia is a good choice. Keep in mind I AM BATTANIAN. I merc for whomever, doesn't matter. But eventually when I am close to wanting to be a vassal, I Merc for Vlandia.

Now when Vlandia is about to take a Battania town.. I do my best to be next to derthert and become vassal. So the vote goes to me. I have NO fiefs,, and am battanian.

Ok.. But now what???? Where do I wanna go after that? My sister will be battanian so she can govern that town). But where next? most likely Empire, right??? In the long term, I will end up owning some empire for sure. So for me I either Pick Corein as my wife. (and thus, all my kids are battanian). So now she and my future daughters can govern ANY battania fief I get. And then my Brother MUST marry an Empire lady. (ira, nadea, itaria etc).. that wife can govern ANY empire town I get years down the line.

If I want empire kids, I MARRY an empire princess, and my brother marries a Battanian. Etc

In other words. The CULTURE penalty is HUGE. Especially if you are not king, and don't implement the "bottom 3" culture policies from the king screen. So you WANT to have correct governor in each fief. So you want your WIVES (yours and 2 brothers) and the female offspring, to be of the Cutlures you plan to "own" in the future.

Also, It is USUALLY best, to give them Scout points, and trade. Send them on caravans.. (they get Medicine, Combat, Scout, Roguery, Trade xp)... So they get NICE perks for governor. Then put them as governor (put points in charm and steward) and get MORE perks for governors.

This is how to make the "best" governors, for end/late game.
