By promoting them to a noble or by clicking the kick from clan button in the clan members page of the clan screen.

Weirdly enough I don,t seem to have that option just yet. maybe it's because I'm too early in my playthrough and don,t have access to this yet?

Go to the Clan tab and click on the companion you want to get rid of. There should be a button labelled Kick from Clan below the companion's skills. It should be lit up for your companions, even if they are leading a party or serving as governor or leading a caravan. It will not light up for family members. (I have not checked if they are in an army.)

If you do not have that button, delete your mods.

No mods yet no options to kick a member out the clan.
Playing the 1.8.0 version.

I'll try to max the numbers of companions or maybe lvl up my clan tier (currently tier 1) and see if this changes anything.

It won´t work if you are in a town.

Talk to your Companion, ask about their position and then on the option that you don't need them anymore.

They appearently moved it to the Talking section.
