So what happened to the new battle terrain system they devbloged about forever ago?
I remember Taleworlds talking up a feature where battle terrains would mirror their exact location on the campaign map, much like in Rome: Total War. Haven't heard a peep about it since, and they are still releasing generic battle terrains as of right now.

This system already got added a few major patches ago. The maps for it are all handcrafted so it will take a while before all the maps are in.

They added more in 1.9 in addition to some new hideouts..

It's been in the game for about three-four patches now and in Patch 1.9 they have made them even more mirrored. They also expanded it to new Town visuals. Unfortunately they redesigned Dunglanys my favourite looking town to look like it does on the map... which is far less desirable visually than the old Dunglanys (seems better for battles though).

A good example of a new battle map reflecting the region almost exactly is the one just added in 1.9 for the Pen Cannoc area. You can see the town up the hill/mountain with a large river coming down the slopes. As it does on the global map.

Again the map has already been split up into "regions" with unique battle maps for each.

Wow you pay attention well.

ahh okay so the system is in, but it isn't necessarily fully populated. fingers crossed that they manage to before full release, also fingers crossed this is an implementable system for modders too.

I personally doupt that all the maps will be ready at release.

The map got split into about 151 sections which all need thair own battle scene.

The battle terrains haven't been "generic" since 1.7.0
If you're traveling through forests you will battle in forests, if there is a bridge near that forest it will be in the scene, same for deserts and steppes and hills... That feature is pretty much done although they're still working on bettering it.

They added a bunch of rivers and lakes and other things to the map as of 1.9, it's much better now.

Edit: Mods work with 1.9, the ones I tested at least. The support mods like Harmony, Butterlib, MCM and UIExtended do work so other mods can be used.
UIExtended and MCM made for 1.8.0 work with 1.9... go figure, not gonna complain.

I hope they add towns and villages to the parts of the map near the borders where it's clear that there is more land to the map we have now.
There is a whole area to the north where at least two towns and a couple of villages could be added.
To the east there is enough space for three or four towns and their villages all along the side from north to south.
To the south and east of the Aserai there is enough room for a whole new faction.

I'm glad there's anything, don't get me wrong. But the impression i got from that initial devblog was that they were going for matching battles 1:1 topographically to the campaign map like in the original Rome:Total War. It's been a looooong time since that devblog though, so I could just be remembering what I wanted to hear lol.

It was always going to be handcrafted maps. Which is sad, since Warband had randomly generated maps.
