Vlandia got the best crossbowmen by a margin though, just as Battania has the best archers.

Crossbows are better vs. armor and bows are better against soft targers. They also usually outclass the crossbow in crossbow vs bow fight.

Historically the giganormous shields the sharpshooters got were used as cover while reloading the crossbow - something the game completely fails to emulate.
Furthermore, an arrow fired from a bow has greater damage potential than a bolt fired from a crossbow of the equivalent power - reason being sheer mass. Again, not emulated by the game.
The crucial difference bewteen crossbowmen and archer is you can quickly train someone to use a crossbow but it takes a lifetime to train an archer, making them incredibly expensive troops vs the cheap crossbowmen - not counting equipment of course.

battanian fians can have a higher tier lvl and
crossbows in bannerlord seems to have a higher range.

atm i would prefer battanian troops. but beta patch 1.9 have improved cavalry AI. so the vlandia faction should get a buff / advantage.

ROF / Range & Damage per hit.

Crossbows can reach further out and individual hits do slightly more damage, but bows shoot faster.

Empire are solid overall, with their weakest unit is their horse archers. Their archers are solid, the infantry is above average, and the noble unit cav is the strongest cavalry unit in game (absolutely scary). Their crossbowmen are average (I never really use them) and their horse archers are too squishy for how expensive they are.
Vlandia got a lot of cavalry... that are trash.... their infantry is kind of plastic. The only good thing about Vlandia is their crossbows (best in game). I would skip the infantry and the non-noble line cavalry.

As for me both toops form those both kingdoms are just boring. Nothing special and nothing interesting.
Well, Vlandia has best x-bowmen and both cavalry are strong. But boring.
I like troops of Battania and of Aserai - both kingdoms are something special with good troops.

crossbows are better at melee but have less fire rate and ammo then archer, tho they have better range.

so if you want your ranged to be great at melee, crossbows. if you want them to fire 50+ arrows each, bows
