Best weapon to forge for money?
I just came back after not playing for a while and I remember that I used to make Two Handed Swords for money the last time I played. Are they still the best to make? What determines pricing on them now? Length, damage?

It could be you're using a different handle or crossguard or something. I've found small recipe changes can have massive effects on the prices. If you made a 1600g sword and then unlocked a new component and used that, it's very possible the new "better" component results in a less valuable product.

And of course if you have any mods running, there's always the possibility one of them did something odd.

regarding the video, it is unfortunately out of date. I didn't watch the whole thing, but the part I did watch talked about things that are no longer true.

2-handed swords and 2-handed polearms can both be very profitable, but you have to unlock the high tier blades and heads, which takes a while.

Gone are the days of the 130k javelins and you won't be catching a high tier glaive head right out out the gate like you used to.

Thanks. I looked around while waiting for a reply and here is what I came across.

Here is a Reddit post describing the best combination of parts to use for the most profitable weapons.

Here is a YouTube video that shows the same, but goes into more detail about how to get experience and money with it.

Those are both about a year old, and there have been changes since then.
Nicodemus Oct 6, 2022 @ 3:38pm
I was making swords and got up to where each Two Handed sold for about 1,600 and then after I sold a batch of about 10, all the new ones I make only sell for 800 per. I even went to a different town to make and sell them.

I told you it would take a while. You need to unlock higher tier blades t make more money, and to do that, you need to smelt down the type of weapon you want parts for. Make some cheap 2-hand swords, or buy some, and smelt them down. Get that Curious Smith perk. Little by little you will acquire more parts. You have to learn all the T1 blades before you can learn T2 blades, and so on.

Your sources didn't mention this, did they?

Actually, the video went in to a lot of detail about smelting other weapons for materials and stuff. Not sure why you ask, because none of that has anything to do with my question.

Also, what does taking a while to build up have to do with my question?

My question was, does anyone know why all of a sudden it went from selling for 1,600 to 800. The exact same sword. If you read my post, I clearly state that I built up to the point that they were selling for 1,600. I sold maybe 20 or 30 of them for that amount, after working a long time to build up my skill. I am well aware that I still have a long way to go, but the very first ones I made only sold for a few hundred. Maybe 500?

Again, I worked up to the point they were selling for 1,600 and then all of a sudden, they stopped selling for that amount and now only sell for 800. Same sword, same parts.

The price initially went up because you got a bit better at making those two-handers.

And it probably went down because you flooded the market.

If the price has dropped that much and if you don't need immediate cash, you would probably be better served by smelting that last batch down to learn new 2-Hand sword parts.

I told you it would take a while because if you haven't kept up with it, it has changed a lot, and it is much harder to get those nice high tier blades and heads.

And as far as answering your question about the price drop, I took a careful look at that post --

These are statements. If you have a question, it is customary to include one of these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ -- '?'.

I am sorry, but out of all of the content from your last two posts, this one line is the only one which attempts to answer the question :-) Or maybe I should phrase that, it is the only statement you made which attempts to clarify the situation I ran across........

But I also mentioned that I went to a different town.

Is the same market used for the entire map?

Is the same market used for half of the map?

Maybe if I specify that I am looking for an answer similar to "You may need to travel across the entire map, to a city on the other side, in order to try and get better prices." (which is what I did, and no the price was exactly the same)

Or we can continue to talk about how long it takes to level up or how much the game has changed. I have all night, I am open to discussions....

Thank you for trying to help solve my issue. That is good to know.

That is not it. I am certain because I made a bunch of them over many play sessions.

Two Handed Sword.
1 - Default Selection, Max Length
2 - Default Selection, Max Length
3 - Default Selection, Default Length
4 - 3rd row (or 4th?, im not looking now), on end, hole in middle - Max Length

I tried default lengths, max lengths and different parts until I settled on those. It sold for 1,600. If I made the 3rd option max length, it only sold for 1,400.

As I stated earlier, the last time I sold them for max price was when I made a batch of 10. I sold them, waited 24 hours to refill stamina and made another and it only sold for half.

And of course if you have any mods running, there's always the possibility one of them did something odd.

No mods.

It is out of date, but the basics all hold up for getting back going. It provided way more information that the first person who responded here and the general info for what to make, how to make it and why the parts matter all are still valid.

And thank you for your post :-)

Maybe it is a bug or glitch *shrugs*

Does the default selection change as parts are unlocked? That would do it, if so, but I don't know if it does. I've never paid attention to what pieces are selected by default.

Bugs are always possible, but are generally more unlikely than missing something that has changed.

What I was doing initially was looking at the attributes for the part. As a fresh save, there are not many part options so it is easy to compare. After the price drop, I went back through all the parts again, trying to see if I had picked the wrong one. I cannot get any combination above 900 any more, using any of those parts.

I did unlock a new blade, that makes the finished sword sell for 3,000 though.

I just wish I knew what caused that price drop. I am moving on. Thanks again for trying to help!
