In any case, money is not made by taxes and so forth..it is made by destroying armies and selling their gear and horses, as well as ransoms. 30-50K easy every battle compared to a few thousand otherwise. Very little seems to be made from actual ownership unless you have half a map worth of prosperous towns even then like a few thousand depending how many armies/size.
Battle loot is incredibly overpowered, especially for someone who is a mercenary and gets paid twice for the battle -- once for selling the loot and ransoming captives and once for mercenary payment.
