Garrison Upgrades: Word of WARNING!
EDIT: for the original post , keep reading below!
But here is "a" solution , as provided below by BadApples and AfLIcTeD:

Find the "Garrisons" List within your Clan menu, under the Parties tab.
Toggle off AutoRecruitment, OR at the least, turn it on/off per Fief as needed.
Secondly, Set a max wage limit for each Fief's garrison.
(Would love to see these options added to the "Manage Garrison" panel in the town screen)

Can't recall any other time I've felt the need to examine this part of the clans menu...
Well, other than now of course :)

Original post:

So... I'll keep this as short and to the point as i Can :P

I Worked hard to increase my relation with all of the Lords in southern kingdom...
Rhagea loved me, I married Ira.
I ended up with like 3 towns plus 4 castles.. And bought my limit of Workshops.
Now the fun part...

Wars kept me pretty busy, but I constantly kept a check on my Fiefs, and I had good governors in all of them... I just kept the upgrades going, and kept adding around 50k Denari to the construction boost in all of them every time I visited.

Rhagaea died of old age, and I got voted as the new emperor.
All of the Lords want to war, all of the time... I just refused...
Eventually though I didn't have enough influence to refuse them, and we ended up at war with pretty much everyone for around 3 years!!

During this time, I made a killing from Loot and got up to around 1 million Denari.
Finally the wars came to an end and we had peace, and then I realized I only had about 200k Denari, and had spent none of except the huge costs of feeding armies during the war...

then I looked at my expenses....

My daily expenses were around 30k... and my total income was only like 17k lol..

I had all those upgrades and the garrisons were full and costing me more than my taxes and workshops could pay for...

So, The point of all of this is this...
Pay attention to your income VS your garrison wages.
My advise is to NOT upgrade your Garrisons until they are FULL... then compare your income VS wages and make sure you can afford that upgrade before you do it...

When I realized what had happened... I was left with the choice of running around removing troops from my garrisons all the time, or get rid of those Fiefs...
which would then put that same burden on another Lord who also couldn't afford it haha.

Turn off auto recruitment... that will just spend your money for you... you have to do it per fief.

For Militia yeah, but not for the Garrison.
It's the Garrison that costs so much, and increases based on the Governors perks etc.
Take the excess soldiers you dont need and donate them to allied city for influence.

You can also set a wage limit for garrisons.

No you have Militia that fills up the Militia counter (Governor perks and fief buildings affect this), but it can also recruit for the "garrison" which is different, the option i mentioned turns off the garrison recruitment.

How do i know this? i train up my men fully then drop them off and train more, i noticed i kept getting random militia recruits in my garrison, that was why.

... I stand corrected.. Why is that in the Clan Parties menu rather than the Keep/City management menu... lame

Yea t'is a bit strange, admittedly i get lost and end up looking at both so i found it that way.

But yeah what AfLIcTeD said will also work afaik, i have never tried it myself.

Yeah, that "also" is in the clan/parties/garrisons panel...
I feel like all of that should be under Garrison management in the Town screen, OR move the Manage Garrison panel to the clans menu altogether.

I was able to salvage my save game from a few hours prior to my noticing an issue...
I lost around 300 days of game time (the great war that distracted me lol)
but still had a load of cash, plus it was just weeks prior to my garrison costs outweighing my income..
so it was a good spot to begin setting garrison wage limits and managing the auto recruitment.

I ended up using a combination of auto recruitment management and the wage limits AfLicteD mentioned.

Thanks for the Insights!
I'm not really sure how the wage limit works. I think it still upgrades troops, so your garrisons may shrink as they upgrade.
dude looters and bandits have 0 (zero) upkeep. why do you think so many catch woodbandits partys... its easy they have no upkeep , they can train in the castle and have free exp and the most important is that they upgrade up slowly without perks just barracks and training fields.i hope it can help you to have good defence with militia and a mix of bandits.

yeah they do continue to upgrade due to training etc, but quality does seem to make up for any numbers you lose. at least to a degree.
One thing I discovered that is worth mentioning, simply ticking OFF the unlimited Wage box isnt enough... each time you load a game it will revert...
you have to drag the slider bar so that the wage is below 2000. Then it will save your setting.
People should really know this game better before they giving out newbie level "WARNING"s and "advice"s.

Indeed you have a point.
But that won’t change me and I am very likely to say the same next time.

Anyway I like to have my opinion addressed, and it doesn’t matter if you agree or not.
