Command Spear Brace - infantry ?

is there a way to command your troops to use their spears to counter cavalry charges??
I am using batterian wildings and their secondary weapon in a "spear" over 200 length polearm... however in shield wall formation or even line formation they insist on using their axes and letting cavalry charge right through without taking damage ( unless they get sopped at the shield wall... but they usually just walk away unscathed)

am i missing something to this?

I believe in the final iteration of the mechanic they will do it automatically when charged but I'm probably wrong.

And though the spear may be long, the actual polearm has to be a pike with the correct handle or a spear with the correct handle so that the stats say "Spear Brace" so it's very possible they can't actually brace but instead just have a very long spear for their secondary.

Vlandian sergeants carry spears and are able to brace.

apparently only the vlandian sergeants AI work with the spear brace, the other factions just does their usual dumb AI this is using beta 1.6.5

Which is what I was referring to, I saw that video of an entire line of units braced and figured the devs didn't update the spear loadouts because the code is clearly there and the mechanic has been for awhile now, so either every faction but vlandia has the wrong weapons or it is an AI fault.

hm, and here i thought I had a reason to replay Bannerlord anti-horse campaigns
guess I will wait longer or just make only crossbowmen armies...
