Choosing workshops for city
Hey folks I tried searching but didn't see any results for this question. How do you guys choose the best workshops for a city? My city is Saneopa and it has 2 villages one makes grain and one makes horses. I have 3 workshops in this city right now one of them is brewery (because of grain) and the other 2 are silversmith and tanner (maybe horses can be used for it?). Profits are nice but I mostly want to help my city be the best it can be.

Here's what to look for:
Sheep - Wool Weavery
Boars - Tannery
Grain - Ale
Grapes -Wine Press
Flax - Linen Weavery
Hardwood - Wood Workshop
Clay - Pottery
Olives - Olive Press
Raw Silk - Velvet Weavery
Silver - Silversmith
Iron Ore - Smithy

Bare in mind some workshops are better than others. Towns with higher Prosperity (with villages with more hearths) will result in larger profits from your workshop. Even if a village is producing something which feeds your workshop, it is still worth checking the town to see if the raw material is being supplied well. High bandit numbers (which attack the villager parties), village raids and low town prosperity all eat into your profits.

For the tannery I think you need cows to get the hide.

Ah yeah I think you are correct! Any idea what I should swap it out for?

my suggestion would be to look in trade and see what they are selling cheap and have an abundance of, so if there is lots of silver for less 75 gold get a silversmith

Do realize that what towns a village has next to it isn't always the most profit for you. It's best you also setup some trade routes too. Traders bring physical items into that town. Usually whatever is in need. If you have 2 tanneries in a town then expect there to be too much production and less demand as a result. The real advice is build into a busy city. Something with high prosperity that gets a lot of foot traffic. If there is nothing like that available, set it up. Own a village? Setup 2-3 caravans. Aim for prosperity buildings. Build workshops based on what resources flood to the town the fastest. Those get produced the most. Then setup another trade route and watch the money multiple, workshops flourish etc.

When you say trade routes do you mean the caravans or is there a way to actually setup trading lanes for cities and villages?

Easy, I calculate my later Kingdom central expansion and multiply by economic ...

Kidding, here is the eaasiest way: video by flesson listing the best workshops ingame, calculated after a reasonable amount of ingame time passing. Just pick the ones you want to center your kingdom later on, so they don't get conquered easily.

Bear in mind that it's not just the villages directly attached to the city that deliver their goods to that city. Watch the parties of villagers that come to your city and see where they are from. Villagers cannot bring their goods to Castles, so any castles near your town will most likely be bringing their goods to your market.

Ahh okay so check the castle villages nearby and watch inventory levels in the city! Learning a lot from this post actually :D

Go into the "Clan" screen (L for shortcut) click "Other" then click whichever workshop you want. There should be two Options "Sell" or "change production", I recommend using change production (2k gold fee) unless you are wanting to open a new workshop in an entirely different town.
