Any mods that alter the reinforcement mechanics?
I loved the game but stopped playing because of the reinforcement mechanic forcing a simplistic meat grinder battle plan instead of any clever maneuvering or tactics. I came back after 1.7 and the battle terrain system made it even more painful. Especially when the enemy is outnumbered and turtles far away from your spawn point. What's the point of holding a bridge or a choke point if your troops spawn 200m behind that and slowly walk towards the enemy in a constant stream? This is why I love the smaller engagements of a few hundred troops instead of big thousand troop armies.

Is there any mod that changes how reinforcements work? I'd even be satisfied with a system that simply shrinks down the armies proportionally and gets rid of reinforcements altogether. Or even a system where units spawn right on top of the dead bodies of their fallen comrades, at least then they wouldn't spend a minute walking to the battle lines.

In fact, I was legit thinking about learning how to mod the game myself. The game is ALMOST perfect to me, except for this. But my programming skills are very limited.

I can't offer any mod advice, but one possible solution would be to have any field engagements that are larger than the battle size setting be divided into fronts. If your max battle size is 1000, and the total forces are 1500, then divide it into two fronts with 50% of each army going to each front. If the forces total 2500, divide it into three fronts. Each battle is fought independent of the other, and, after all front battles are complete, the remaining forces are recombined and any remainder battle it out, subject to the aforementioned front rule.

Another possibility would be to disable any reinforcements if your army's spawnpoint gets overrun.
Whatever they decide to do something has to be done about the reinforcement spawns.

Yeah this was annoying in Warband too. Personally I'd say add some sort of dynamic system to reinforcement where there are multiple zones and +/- a tactics distance each reinforcement zone is equidistant, followed with a rule that makes the zone favor not being over enemy units.
